In /v/'s opinion, what is the best 4x strategy game for when you want to feel like conquering the world/galaxy? I'm not a fan of Civ 5 for this. It feels like you have to all in early or wait for nukes but by then any other victory condition is easier. I think Endless Space is pretty good though. Endless Legend is alright but needs too many turns to really start.

Are these games any fun on singleplayer?

yes

Age of Wonders is pretty comfy.

Endless Legend

>>322631964
I get bored, and mostly due to how limited they are and how long it takes PC to make a turn.(yes all 4x take eternity to move to a next turn)
i'm better off playing online chess.
>>
>>322632794
Not the 4X where they have actually good programmers and dump the AI routine onto multiple cores like Gal Civ

Distant Worlds Universe it pretty neat

Fuck, this looks so good but I know I'll never be able to run it optimized.

Civiilization IV: Caveman 2 Cosmos mod.
>>
>>322633010
Gal Civ 3 doesn't change too much from 2 but it is just an upgrade from it.

Hexagons are better for movement. One of the only things Civ V improved on.
>>
>>322631964
Galactic Civilizations 2
>>
>>322632739

disgraceful. Although, I have to admit that it's kinda cool to just have one big as fuck city during the endgame instead of many small ones.
>>
>>322633565
>but it is just an upgrade from it.

More like a downgrade. Graphics are better but that's it, they chopped a load of features out that were in GalCiv2 and are now selling them as DLC.
>>
>>322633721
Oh I'm pirating so that doesn't effect me especially. I would just wait until its feature complete and buy the complete version for the appropriate price point.
>>
>>322631964
>I think Endless Space is pretty good though
Master of Orion 2 is better still

Endless Legend is probably your best bet for conquering a single world if you don't like Civ5

Or Civ4 or FFH2 obviously.

>tfw games like civ and total war look really interesting but i can't play/enjoy them because i'm potato dumb and way too unconcentrated
>>
>>322634559
Just work your way up to the more complex titles.

Start with Civ 5, it's made for 4X noobs.
>>
>>322634697
but there isn't even a tutorial
>>
>>322634559

Civ V was literally made to be as casual as possible for braindead fucks to enjoy. Not necessarily a bad thing, since we need more 4X games.

>>322631964

Do the smart thing and pirate Paradox games. Europa Universalis IV is one of the easiest to get into, and as soon as you figure out the basics of playing, the game becomes easy as shit to play. Just make sure to get all the DLCs as well since the base game is useless.
>>
>>322634948
Isn't there? I'm sure there was. I don't feel like re-installing it just to check.

There is a tutorial in Civ 4 but that game is a little more complex than Civ 5.

You could try starting with it though, it's not too bad in vanilla mode.

When you work your way up to some mods, it can be pretty intimidating though.

>Poles still try to piggyback superior Lithuanian blob
My Slavic sides.
>>
>>322631964
I like Sins of a Solar Empire because it's 4X in RTS form. I'm a shitter at it though.
>>
>>322634948
Civ 5 will give you tips for just about every aspect of the game the first time you play. Just start up a game with the AI.
>>
>>322634948
Just look up a guide on your first hundred turns, its really not THAT hard. Honestly getting started is the only tricky part for noobs, once you figure out the basics of food and production and shit the rest comee naturally.
>>
>>322635075
>I'm sure there was.
it's not a tutorial, it's read every game mechanic and then applying everything by yourself without any help
>>
>>322634948
Goddamnit, there's an extensive tip system and literally every part of the UI makes sure you didn't miss shit: they going to flash, enlarge, pop up etc
>>
>>322633462
>dude instead of creating a cohesive experience lets just pack as much shit in as possible so it takes 7 minutes to load a new turn lmao
It's shit. I don't know why everyone's shilling that awful mod all of a sudden.
>>
>>322635337
Well there is a tutorial in Civ 4 and it's a better game overall. Maybe start with that.
>>
>>322632739
That looks awesome as fuck but I'm so impatient I can't finish a game, let alone even get past the second tech tree. I haven't finished Dark Souls, 1 or 2 because I keep starting over because I feel like I lost track and I don't like trying to figure out what I was doing when I left off. This is only about a week of not playing a game, too. Getting to mid-late game is only a dream to me, I can't stop myself from just starting fresh and doing everything the best I can.

How do I fix this?
>>
>>322631964
Wait for Stellaris. Hopefully it comes out this year.
>>
>>322635432
>takes 7 minutes to load a new turn lmao
It's poorly optimized because it's running so many mods and its just a small mod team.

Don't play gigantic maps and you shouldn't have a problem, unless you have a toaster.

If you have a toaster, there is a solution.

Rocks 2 Rockets.

Maybe try that out if you can't run C2C properly.

I never get any load times over 10 seconds or so, that's at Modern era as well after dozens of hours.
>>
>>322632739
I have to be honest I really hate the art style. Not like that's super important but it does make me hesitant to invest time in it since I'll be looking at it for so long.

Sins of a Solar Empire is pretty fun. Plus unlike Civ V, you can just get the latest expansion pack outright without buying the base game, and the base game is also pretty good even without the expansion.
>>
>>322633218
How the hell do you play this? So much going on. I own it but never had the balls to try it out.

If they want to get into civ 4 they should watch "Sulla plays civ 4:Wilhem of the Dutch". He's a preachy fanboy but if you bother to watch at least a couple videos it will teach a nooby a ton.
>>
>>322635538
>Paradox space game
I didn't even know about this, thanks for the shill.

Wish it had a gameplay trailer.
>>
>>322635912
Sulla has a lot to offer but he can be overwhelming because the guy breaks down every turn and like calculates when wonders will finish based on demographic data and shit.
>>
>>322633218
I play shit like HoI and I can't get into this. I blame it on the UI which both looks abysmal and is clunky and random as fuck.
>>
>>322635817
leave automatons on, go turning them off as you get a hang of things. It's really easy to get into, honestly.
>>
>>322632739
I bought this game and I've played like 6 rounds and I still have no idea what I'm doing. I was playing one of the races and a popup kept telling me I had points to spend on activating something, can't remember what, an obelisk or something but it didn't fucking tell me HOW to activate it.

Great directions there.

Yes, although you will never really zoom in that far since 99% of the time you are more interesting in a regional scale

What is your point exactly. I don't like CoD so when I make a thread asking for FPS games to play i'd probably mention that.

I got this game on the steam sale and i'm enjoying it quite a bit, especially with how winter can basically fuck your shit over and even things out. My only major gripe is how researching works because i cant go back and research a tech from two eras ago due to the fact that researching anything increases the science cost of everything.

I'm playing on newbie and im still getting my shit kicked in pls help
>>
>>322642073
Yeah never liked that. Supposed to balance out science victory I guess but I still don't like it.
