It's a generic, clunky third person shooter that retards on /v/ masturbate to endlessly because TB told them it had a good story.

He's right though. Any time anyone makes a thread about this garbage, it's always praise. It's like people have only played 3 games in their lives or have never picked up a book. The only positive about this game, as OP pointed out, is that it's mercifully short.

Also, the little "twist" revelations when he's talking to you were neat as well.

Is it a great game? No. Is it worth a playthrough? Definitely.

Nolan North kinda took me out of it though

It was so bad. Short, terrible gameplay, ugly visuals and horribly presented story. I know what they were getting at with it, but "you could have stopped playing " is an atrocious way to get at it unless it's a free game.
>>
>>322610205
The visuals were also pretty neat, like when the chopper crashes in front of Konrad's tower.

Not enough games have you end up being the villain, under the guise of what you think is "the right thing".

I don't necessarily think they were telling the player to stop playing, but just about how some people take shit too far when the solution is much easier realistically

the dev said the thing is entirely open to interpretation, that in itself is some sort of cop out if you think about it, so you can pretty much make up a headcanon for yourself already, it just means he doesn't really want to force you to think Walker is really bad if you don't want it.

my personal headcanon is pretty simple. Walker joins XCOM and becomes The Volunteer

Nigga please. The only shitty thing regarding decisions the game pulled was handing you 'choices' in a linear game. You follow walker as he goes on self-righteous crusade and gets burned for it, everything is on his head -not the player. You have no choice in the matter because you, the player are only along for the ride like so many other shooters.
'Just stop playing' is a fucking meme forced by shitposters. The only thing the game directly accuses the player of is playing a war game and expecting to come out the hero and be completely absolved of any and all you did to become one. Yes, 'war is bad', 'morality is shades of grey'. Thank you. You may say this isn't a new idea but it appears to still be novel enough to be discussed long after most other linear shooters are forgotten.

And did they phone you while you were in the middle of playing to tell you that?
Yes, they went full retard with the speculation. But that dumb shit has to be looked for, and using it to judge the game before you play it is just as retarded.
>>
>>322612753
Thankfully, for all their faults, Call of Duty games still know they're games and stick to "gamey" rules instead of going for pretentious "secret" out-of-game endings like SOtL's devs did.
>>
>>322613112
I can't count how many times I've survived helicopter/plane/car crashes in video games, it's pretty stupid
>>
>>322613072
No. When a creation goes beyond the realm of its medium, as Spec Ops' devs claim their does, things beyond said medium have to be taken into consideration. Any reading confined to said medium alone would be incomplete.
>>
>>322612808
I think what I enjoyed the most from the genericness of the game was the small things you -almost- don't notice.
>Most enemies in the beginning simply crumple and die when you shoot them, some crawling away for the execution prompt
>later on they sometimes don't die immediately, many often stay lying on the ground clutching at their throats if you shoot them in the neck or other wounds as they bleed out in the middle of a fight
>during this some are actually sobbing in between the spasms of choking on their own blood while others are trying to curse at you with their dying breaths
It was a pretty neat contrast for the cut and paste gameplay and realistic portrayal

That and how its not a game where you go in, win the war, and come out the hero like most Military games. Nope, you fucked up and doomed a city.
>>
>>322613510
I liked how people missed how you can shoot your weapon in the air to scare the civilians.
whoever actually shot the civilians has some issues
>>

>>322613648

>>322613238
How many people read the author afterword of a book before reading it? Skip to the end, see all the twists and then conclude that the book is poorly written purely based on that?
An asshole would.
No, you read the book and realize just how derivative it is and then see the commentary and wonder what the fuck they were smoking. And until you get there, you may or may not enjoy the actual book.
But fuck metaphors. The only people who bitch about the game telling them to stop playing are the ones who were told that before they even played it.
>>
>That civilian that rushes at you when turning a corner during an intense firefight near the beginning of the game

It was a low blow, but it did manage to make me feel a bit bad about myself for not confirming my targets. I feel like they could have sprinkled such encounters elsewhere in the game too.
>>
>>322613693

>>
>>322613609
I shot them because of how they killed him. Cruel murder deserves a cruel death.

Notice how Adams was the first to ask to shoot them when just earlier in the game he was so insistent on saving the civilians while they could.
>>
>>322613714
How many authors claim their book isn't really contained in just the book itself, and that the reader's act of quitting their reading is in fact a part of it?

With such claims comes the responsibility of submitting to judgement. And most sensible people who have judged this claim (of "not playing" being a secret ending) have judged it poor.

>The only people who bitch about the game telling them to stop playing are the ones who were told that before they even played it.
And that doesn't make sense in your head? For me, a book/game/film most certainly can be ruined before experiencing it by reviews, second had opinions, spoilers, or - really the worst scenario - the author himself.

the game was about deconstructing the war her image and basically saying

Fun competent game that gets by being unironically edgy and "war is bad mkay?" A series of walking edgy anti-war tropes tucked away into a videogame. It isn't a bad game, just overrated and doesn't really stand out among 3ps.

It's the transmission Konrad sent right before he shot himself.

What was the point of Walker pointing out that he's seen the intro's helicopter shooting scene before? Is it just the game breaking the fourth wall? I assume it's that, to pull the player out of the immersion of the game

It's just a flashback placed in the middle of the story. Instead of saying "and here's that one part from the beginning, let's skip it" they made you play it again.
And just add to the whole insanity theme they made Walker note how it was the second time you were playing it.

There's like 4 alternative endings so make sure to replay it (on FUBAR difficulty as well). I think the story becomes a lot more powerful with the hardest difficulty and if you get one of the alternative endings (the Epilogue secret chapter).

One of my fav games for sure because it makes a valid point about military involvement.

>fuck heavies and fuck parts where they hand you only a deagle and tell you to deal with it
>eventually git so gud that i killed all the soldiers on fubar without breaking a sweat
