Approach the giant snake piles from behind to get a few hits in before they can turn around and try to avoid fighting multiple snake piles at once. The Snake men can be easily parried and visceral attacked.
You could probably manage to do Cainhurst now, but it'll be a little harder and the boss is difficult.Run past the grudge ticks if they're too hard.
Hunter's nightmare is no fun at all, I think it's one of the worst places in this game. Frankly I didn't even like a single thing about it, unless you count shooting a certain cliff dwelling NPC.

Oh and adding to this. If the duo of hunters in Nightmare Frontier are a problem for you, equip antidotes and run around in the poisonous swamp healing/curing yourself when necessary.
They'll eventually die from poison.

To be perfectly honest with you I'm shit at any sort of stats. I picked Military Veteran and been putting stat points in vitality, strength, skill, endurance in that level of importance. I did a couple of levels of bloodtinge and that little star icon to get some weapons to a useable level but it's mostly been "which upgrade makes the most numbers go up".

you only really need arcane at 15 unless you are planning on doing an arcane build, but you can only really do that with prior knowlage of how the game works.

All good. Str+Skill=quality build. Ludwig's is a fine choice for Quality. Optimised builds are centred on using particular weapons. This gives variety on subsequent playthroughs.
Cainhurst Castle has the best weapons and armour for Bloodtinge builds. Cainhurst boss can be done on low levels with gun skills- parrying and parrying the sword rain special attack. Bloodtinge is a tough build because it's rubbish for a lot of bosses.

That's how it should be, don't worry about any PvP meta or shit, first playthrough should be Leveling as much as you want and whatever stats you choose.
Cainhurst is a weird area, the mosquito things which are only in the courtyard and the boss at the end are incredibly hard, but everything between is very manageable.
I suggest sprinting past the Mosquito's to the front door of the castle, then going through the interior where you can get a bunch of items.
You'll have no hope against the boss, so just go through and activate the elevator so you can get back easily when you are a decent level.

if there is one boss in the game that you should be forced to solo, it should be gascoigne. fighting and beating him are the only way that you are going to learn the core mechanics of the game
