Monster Hunter 4 is currently on sale in EU Nintendo eShop and I would like to ask you - is it worth buying?
The only game I have on 3DS is Etrian Odyssey IV, since games are so damn expensive here and eShop rarely get discounts (except some indie games and SMT). I played Monster Hunter on PSP before and disliked controls, but when I played simplified version in forms of Gods Eaters, it was kinda fun.
Do you think it would be good idea to buy MH4 for 3DS? I would still need to pay more for pre-paid cards and I dont have credit card.

I really enjoy Monster Hunter 4, it's my first entry to the Monster Hunter series.
I feel that it's worth full price but as it's half off on the e-shop that's really good.
Just make sure you have the dual stick add on or own a new 3ds otherwise it's unplayable.

Also, other weapons really all like that. Great Swords are really slow 2h weapons. Hammer, Switch Axe and Hunting Horn are pretty much the same. Lance and Gunlance are slow and point weapons.

greatsword is meant to be sheathed until you come in with a charge attack or just a combo. it's actually considered the most mobile weapon.
hammer gives you decent mobility and allows you to KO monsters by hitting them in the head repeatedly.
switchaxe is somewhat like the greatsword. it's best to sheath when you need to close distance, but has respectable opening attacks. eventually you'll be able to get a skill called "evade extender" that makes you roll further and is useful for closing small distances. i've literally never used one before, so i can't say much more.
hunting horn will give you the fastest weapon unsheathed movement speeds once you play your movement up song. it allows you to ko monsters like the hammer, but has slightly better reach and easy to spam attacks. it does less damage of course, but the songs are fantastic for a team.
you aren't good enough to use lance or gl properly.
dual swords or insect glaive are probably your best options.
I think it's one of the best games on the 3DS, but it might not be your thing. Give the sword weapons a try and see if you enjoy the demo, you can even try online there (if it's still active)

It's similar to all the others so if you like at least one of them then it is. If this is your first MH game then maybe. You can easily spend 100+ hours in it even if you get bored of grinding.
If you're new to the series like I am and start playing, you'll probably get burnt out or frustrated and quit for a while. But when you come back to it, it'll be a fantastic and challenging experience.

Each weapon has a more attacks and in-depth ways to use them than you would expect. In general all weapons are viable.
Don't pay attention to comparing attack power between weapons. They really are only comparable within their own class.
Most weapons you use will be slow because that's the type of game it is. Its very heavy with large follow thru. I'd say start out with SnS or Dual Blades until you really figure things out.
Out of curiosity, in the demo what were you able to beat? Just the Great Jaggi? Or the Tetsucabra and Gore Magala too?

I know you're just talking about solo damage, but I really don't like basing the tier lists off of solo speed runs. For example, LBG is obviously broken in multiplayer since it enables HAME and the CB is a lot better solo because you can abuse the hell out of guard points easily like old counter lance.

playing in a group is an entirely different story. for example, bow is garbage against chameleos solo, but fares significantly better when there are others around to distract it. gs on the other hand benefits greatly from solo play because it means the monster is more predictable.

It might benefit you to try to fight the other ones too. Doubt you'd be able to win, and I mean that as no insult, but a motivator to keep going for a lot of beginners is seeing what shit they start throwing at you and how crazy it can get.
It is a hard series to get into, luckily I think 4U might be the best one because it has the least drawn out intro of modern Monster Hunter. If you don't feel like putting some time into it and potentially getting frustrated, don't get it.
But if you're willing to stick with it and go for it? You're in for a wild 500 hour ride.

I really like playing the HH, but I just think that the monster design for a lot of the end game bosses ruins it. It feels like a bad weapon not because it's weak but just because it's not very good against the harder monsters.

MH4 is my first MHgame and i really like it so far. The controls may be a bit uncommon first, but they are really good thought trough imo. As for the weapons i felt like most of them grow on you later. I first disliked most of them and now, since i got a bit better in the game, i start to like some i didn't before. I would give it a try if you like the general theme of the game and if you can afford it.

Mained SA in MH3U and tried IG in MH4U for a new challenge because I would rush right through it with SA. I totally fell in love with the glaive. It's hard to get away from it but I made some HH to test them because I really plan to main them with MHX or whatever game comes to the west next.
HH is very different to play but also very fun and rewarding.

Both Black Fatalis Blade and Rogue Sedition are better craftable GS. Seregios especially stands out since it basically has natural infinite purple and still has really high raw with good affinity(makes sure your Crit Draw always crits).

Seregios is the best Natty Purple GS but it still isn't that good compared to relics and other weapons with S+1. Positive affinity on a GS is mostly useless due to Crit Draw and its raw is extremely mediocre and wouldn't be worth it if it wasn't for natural purple. The only real reason to use it is the ability to replenish sharpness without spending time with whetstones.

I always was on the fence on getting that game, and the current price makes it pretty damn tempting.
Got the circle pad from MH3U too. I liked it, hitting assholes in the face with my hammer, though I branched out with longsword a little, just to be able to cut tails. I'll probably try out some new weapons should I get it of course. So, it could be fun. I didn't get it on launch just because I clinged to the foolish hope the game would have a Wii U version.

It takes a while for you to enjoy it if you never played a MH game before. First of all, it is not a hack n' slash. Your character is slow and the monster has tons of (hidden) HP. It kills you easily. You take about 30 minutes in most hard quests and the beginning is very tutorial-based. Like "get x items" quest, "deliver that item", "kill x monsters" until you get the basics.
Also, it is quest-based, which means no free roaming without a time limit. The late game is meant to be played locally or online because of its difficulty, it doesn't worth it soloing a monster for 40minutes just to get one or two items when you need like 5-10 tries to complete an armor set. Sometimes it is really hard to obtain materials and best sets in the game may take weeks to complete.
The sense of achievement lies on how you develop your character and grow stronger. The weapon and stat system is very, very deep and fully customizable. There are endless possibilities of combining sets and weapons to maximize your advantages against strong monsters.
If that suits your tastes, definitely go for it. MH series have some of the best experiences in 3DS and PSP, specially on the multiplayer side. You'll probably end up putting 200+ hours into it just to do all quests. Online lasts forever - or at least until the servers are still up or a new MH game draws your attention.
