Why aren't video games fun anymore?
>>
>>322473372
Anything you love will eventually be killed by mainstream media, Anon.
>>
>>322473372
It's your fault for getting jaded. I fucking love video games cause I don't nitpick at every single flaw in a game.

>>
They're not less fun. You're just not enjoying them as much as you used to.
>>
>>322473614
I'm pretty fucking casual overall, I like dark souls and most AAA but put me in a game that takes skill like street fighter or unreal and I crumple.

I don't nitpick but I'm still let down by things like MGSV and Arkham Knight
>>
>>322473372
Because the gaming industry only cares about one thing. Money.
>>
You either suffer from depression, or you have browsed /v/ for so long that you willingly or not have accepted that modern/all video games are shit because of a constant stream of shitposting.

Have you tried stop browsing /v/ and go to a site with people who legitmately love video games? We are social creatures, and accept a social hiveminds whatever we want to or not. So make that hivemind an enjoyable one.

Video games are better than they have been in a long time, indie is bigger than ever and has something for everyone, all platforms are getting great games, and if you think new games are shit, well then playing old games have never been easier.

No excuse.
>>
Too many Japanese(-inspired) games. Jap games have always been bad apart from the platformers.

The problem is that the Western industry has become too big and consolidated into a few AAA console-exclusive zombie/faux-stealth games a year, while the indie scene of the early 10s was disappointingly nothing more than a self-promotion stunt for a handful of people who proved not all that interested in video games after they got in the spotlight.
>>
>>322473818
i'm not enjoying them as much I used to because they're less fun
>>

Yes, to you. But not in general. The quality of games hasn't lowered.

'Cause you're a jaded fag who spends too much time on /v/.

I can still have fun with games I used to play many years ago so I guess it's the new games that aren't made fun anymore. Also me getting older all games have lost that something... some kind of magic, that used to make me completely amazed by playing a new game.
>>
>>322474346
You sound like a nostalfag desu
>>
>>322474145
in general, the game designs have all lowered

most of everything is recycled, barely interactive and predictable

there is very little focus on coming up with new concepts and ideas, mechanics and systems, which played a huge part in what made games exciting years earlier

the only thing which has moved forward are visuals elements

Partial answer right here. Long gone are the days of creativity and passion. It's all rehashed garbage now because why bother making anything original when sequels and graphics sell in the millions for your average plebeaian.

The other reason, which ties into the first, is that the market has blown up in the last decade or so, it's no longer niche to play video games. Thanks to casualization everyone, even your grandma, plays games but that also means every game is watered down.

The last reason is likely that you're no longer a youngling, still marveled by worlds and stories he hasn't experienced.

My recommendation: literature and sports.

Try smaller scale games anon, like Galak-Z or Axiom Verge. It took me a while to realize that I much prefer a smaller game that does a few things really well over AAA games that try to do everything mediocre. Even try going back to something as simple as Bomberman games, which I've been having tons of fun with lately.

And one more for good measure.

The important aspect of all this OP is are you just bored of video games, or do you find that everything else in your life bores you and you don't get much joy from anything these days?

If it's the latter then there's a good chance you've got depression. Maybe you'll be lucky and it's just temporary. Maybe you'll be like me and it'll be for the rest of your life, as if you're perceiving everything through a grey muffled fog. You're here but you're not really. You don't live, you just exist - waiting patiently to die.
>>
Because we associate them on a subconscious level with the atrociousness that is modern business practices and recognize a lack of effort, love and care put into them these days. If a game is made with love and care, somehow, some way, it will be tainted.

Video Games are tainted.

Fun is something that happens in your brain, not everywhere else. Put some effort into being healthy, lay off the drugs if you into that, try to get some friends, talk to doctor if nothing helps. Fun is just chemistry. /v/ bitching about games usually because they don't seem fun to them anymore, and they don't seem fun to them anymore usually because their lives turned to shit after most of the life spent in vidya.

It's more to do with media, in general.
In the modern age, we've become more aware of common tactics used in in mass media.

The entertainment industry is that- an industry. There is no room to have cool new ideas; just sterile, safe tactics to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

We've, more or less, become critics in our preferred media. We're more adhering to flaws and stale practices in video games.

There are also pitiful beings who blame themselves for this. People who think that they're social rejects who wasted their experiences on video games.
Let me tell you, those guys are just guys looking for pity in all the right places. They don't want pity from other people, but from people who have similar experiences. They're more a virus than anything else.

Enjoy what you enjoy, man. Don't let society tell you what you should do.

That's the most boring shit to have someone watch.

I dunno I'm having fun. Maybe it's not that games aren't fun but you are just playing the wrong genre.
I used to love fps games no matter how shitty they were because I just wanted to shoot stuff but now I find them extremely boring and would rather plan an rpg or a 4x game. Only exception is Stalker.

read some real literature, and not fiction shit

I agree with that quoted anon's sentiment. Gaming has become too mainstream, and many niche types of games simply aren't made anymore. You have too many games that try to be a jack of all trades, master of the none, many open world games that simply fail to deliver on many fronts, be it dynamic content, too linearized missions, and more.

You can't even trust companies that build a reputation, like Rocksteady and that Arkham Knight dud.

There are still great games being made, but the amount of digging you have to do nowadays is just tiresome and sometimes feels like it's not worth investing time into.

The middle ground developers are too scarce, so you either have focus tested AAA trash or indie game that looks worse than NES shit. There are exceptions, but more middle ground games would be nice, and I think this is going to happen, with big name devs making their own small studios.

Crowdfunding and early access are too much of a double edged sword, EA games should have a special refund system to put more accountability in the mix, consumers should be able to get refunds for early access games until the developer announces a release date, or for a period that is much, much longer than finished games.

>>
>>322474876
Nice answer but I think it is worth it to just get as many old gold games to back log while you wait out until the gaming market shrinks.

Gaming needs to get a lot worse before it gets better, let it almost die and then come back when the gaming market only allows true passionate developers to succeed.

There will still be good games trickling down the pipe line but you will have to put in work to find them. There are always good games
