Not trying to start shit, but how well would Alan stand up against Taichi? His Charizard was able to push back Zygarde before mega evolving, and it tanked Origin Form Groundon's attacks. Speedwise it dodged Dragon's Ascent, and Ash's Charizard flew across the Johto region in Movie 3 in a short timeframe.
While I doubt Alan could beat Taichi, though he'd scare him off from having a fist fight with pure edge, he'd definately put off a better fight going by feats. Origin's Mewtwo is pretty weak and was KO'd after being punched through some rock whereas anime Mewtwo can destroy islands without effort, so Red's Zard's one feat isn't that impressive.

as a guy that loves monster collector games, here's what I see:
Digimon has more interaction options between player and monster, as shown in the digimon world games, being able to talk, and the likes, allowing them to be viewed not just as pets and buddies. With emphasis on data, tech-savy individuals would probably like it too.
Pokemon has the natural world and even though they are advertised as friends (maybe even more so), are often treated like pets in the end. Those that adore animals and nature might like pokemon more.
