What if instead of people subconsciously trying to become said favorite fictional characters, they are simply drawn to fictional characters that have attributes similar to them?

Ever since I started watching Gaki no Tsukai, I've noticed that I'm much more prone to using noises in place of English ones (like うわ for surprise, etc.)

I also keep saying ああ and うん for affirmation instead of "yes" or "yeah," completely without trying.
But I'm chalking that up to studying the language (and I like it better).

I think if I acted even remotely like any of my favourite video game characters it would wind up being extremely embarrasing. Most of them are very larger-than-life/cartoonish to the point where anyone acting like them in reality would seem like a total retard.

>In the strict psychological sense, the adjective is defined as "operating or existing outside of consciousness".
Anything you do without noticing it is subconscious.

Breathing is a subconscious activity. It's a level of brain function that you are not aware of as you're doing it (unless you focus on it, obviously).

How this is pseudoscience eludes me. But if you could pose a reasonable argument I'd be willing to listen.

If you think that psychology as a whole, the study and critical application of thought processes and brain function beyond the anatomical, a scientifically hazy and sometimes indefinable part of the human condition, is invalid somehow, I'd have a few words.

>>
>>322457936
That quote came from the same page actually.

What am I supposed to be seeing in the sources, exactly?

>By the 'subconscious,' we refer to that part of consciousness which is not at any given moment in focal awareness. At any given moment, very little (at most, only about seven disconnected objects) can be held in conscious, focal awareness. Everything else - all of one's prior knowledge and experiences - resides in the subconscious.
This seems like a pretty stable example of subconscious brain activity.
>>
>>322458014
This has nothing to do with lucid dreaming. Subconscious is a term not used by any psychologist or psychiatrist worth their salt, and was never used by Freud in his writings despite often being attributed to Freud.

It's also used by a ton of new age crystal energy faggots.

Freud is not relevant in the field these days, most of his theories have been discarded or ignored now. Also no psychologist or psychiatrist is worth salt because none of it is concrete and is all based on opinions of the doctor. Unlike, say, a physician whose opinions do not somehow change the diagnosis of something being cancer or not.

Freud's methods may no longer be applied, but they're still the basis for modern psychology, and therefore his opinion on the term is pretty important. Basically, the only time subconscious is used is when someone is talking out of their ass as was pointed out...

>>322458404
...here:

Charles Rycroft explains that the subconscious is a term "never used in psychoanalytic writings".[6] Peter Gay says that the use of the term subconscious where unconscious is meant is "a common and telling mistake";[7] indeed, "when [the term] is employed to say something 'Freudian', it is proof that the writer has not read his Freud".[8]

>>
>>322458634
Not but psychology is not the one you look or that, it's neuroscience.
>>
>>322458596
>Freud's methods may no longer be applied, but they're still the basis for modern psychology
Wrong, there's multiple branches in modern psychology and psychoanalysis is only one of them.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has 0 basis in anything Freud said and the two branches frequently disagree on core issues.

There's also shit loads more of smaller lineages when it comes to psychology where plenty of them aren't founded on either PA or CBT

Because in real scientific fields you don't find shit in days, it takes time to make actual search and figure it out what is going on. Inconclusive research will always be better than
>"I guess this work because it's my opinion and sounds logical to me and my m8s. What do you mean you can't replicate what I found? So what? The brain is mysterious man, it just works"

Neuroscience will be everything psychology hoped to be and that wasn't even the goal of the field.
