The emulation really isn't anything to write home about. Apart from GB/GBC and NES (for the most part), it can't emulate any system particularly well.
It would be pretty rad if it could emulate SNES and PS1, though. Hope that the next revision includes more horsepower under than hood and an extra pair of shoulder buttons.

Firmware has nothing to do with it, just how efficiently the emulators are able to make use of the hardware.
I'm not say it's impossible to play through like that, just there's no way you're going to get something like a SuperFX/2 or SA-1 game going on there; I wouldn't expect the Cx4 to be doable either.
