Come on, anon. The Donkey Kong Country games would have been also-rans in the crowded platformer genre of the 1990s if it weren't for the games banking hard on being visually impressive. The games themselves were nothing to write home about.
The Banjo-Kazooie games were garbage collectathons, as was DK64. Conker's Bad Fur Day was just Rare throwing in unfunny lowbrow humor just because they could get away with it in an M-rated game. Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Jet Force Gemini were all shooters with piss-poor controls. Diddy Kong Racing was admittedly Mario Kart with some variety, but it had that retarded adventure mode that made it a complete chore to play.
I don't know what it is about Rare, but they dropped the ball hard as soon as they jumped to 16-bit. It's a shame, because games like Cobra Triangle, Snake Rattle n' Roll, R.C. Pro-AM, Slalom, and Captain Skyhawk were all great games.
