I haven't read up on Bloodborne lore yet. What's this guys deal? And where the fuck did he get a minigun?

Also does he drop good loot if you kill him by not throwing him off the ledge?
>>
>>322441402
I'd agree with that. The ones in the church definitely could be holding some type of mass. They've got the ritual blood on the altar and they've congregated around the crucified BSB hanging from the ceiling. Maybe they're trying to re-enact the rituals that they took part in when they were still human.

>>322441417
It almost sounds like they're falling, to me. I think it hints at the fact that they are doomed to keep reliving that hunt over and over because of the curse. No matter how many times they're killed, they just come back to the nightmare.
>>
>>322441971
Presumably to keep themselves from going insane due to seeing some shit.

>>322442232
It's Djura, a retired hunter from the Powderkegs. They made all kinds of wacky hunter weapons, and probably made the gatling gun too. He used to be a hunter in the dream just like you, but he's tired of the hunt and now protects the beasts in Old Yharnam.
>>
>>322442292
God, it just makes me feel like shit for killing them. But maybe thats the point.
>>
>>322442232
You get the loot regardless how he dies, just quit and reload and his loot will be next to the minigun.

As for lore, I think he is there to guard the darkbeast paarl. If you kill darkbeast then go to him he will give you his loot.

>>
>>322441949
Bowblade's tricked mode shots hit like mack trucks if you level Bloodtinge, and the Evelyn and Ludwig's Rifle are the better not gimmicky guns.

The saw spear has decent arcane scaling, but the tontritus is decent as well, but fragile.

>>322442232
Was one of the first to realize that beasts are still people on some level, but was also the only Hunter who gave a shit about this fact. As such, he cordoned off Old Yharnam to limit the amount of people coming in and killing beasts/ex-people. He also gave up his Hunter Oath, which would have made him an eventual target of the Hunter of Hunters.

He has a gatling gun because he's the last of the Powder Kegs, a group of Hunters who prefers more mechanical weapons that utilize gun powder. The gatling gun is one of their more perfected designs, but not suited for most hunters.

His loot is the Powder Keg emblem, which allows you to buy their related weapons (Rifle Spear and Stake Driver, plus a couple tools). Generally if there is a weapon or tool with advanced mechanics or gun powder involved, it was made by the Powder Kegs or their precursors, the Oto Workshop.

>>322443136
All hunters you kill disappear in the same grey mist, barring exclusions like Gascoigne or Maria, who kind of explode into boss particle effects.
>>
>>322443489
What do you mean by mac truck? With 46 bt and some 27 percent gems it's like 610ish AR. If someone doesnt have resist gear, it'll hit usually for 380.

I'm not sure about what's going on, but I'm certain it's not that. The PC can leave Ebrietas, the Celestial Emissary, and Amygdala alive, and it doesn't give a fuck

Right. I'm pretty sure Gehrman, Willem, and Laurence were the original scholars at BW, but they just ended up diverging for their own obvious reasons.
>>
>>322443967
Executioners, Church Hunters, Powder Kegs, the League, Vilebloods, Hunter of Hunters. There are also the old hunters, who are from before Hunters started splintering into different factions. I think there are a few more but I can't remember them.

All factions stem from Gehrman's secret group of hunters, back when the beast scourge was just becoming a thing. Then there was splintering of purposes/motivations. Not all splinters are enemies, either. Powder Kegs, while they may be WORKSHOP heretics, aren't considered enemies to all hunters. They're just considered bizarre and their weapons unnecessarily complicated. So it's less of "heretical group that must be purged" and more "group that has strayed from the path of normalcy."

Meanwhile, Executions have a standing kill on sight order on Vilebloods because they goddamn hate the filthy fucks. Hunter of Hunters's are Hunters who's job is to deal with blood addled (fucking crazy and barely human, possibly becoming beasts) hunters who have abandoned their oath as Hunters. They may or may not also be responsible for sending people to the Hunter's Nightmare (where you go when you lose yourself to your blood lust/do something extremely terrible. Basically Hunter Hell), but both you and Simon confirm that dying isn't a requirement for getting there, so who the fuck knows.
>>
>>322445312
I laughed.
>>
>>322440892

Why he try to shoot me tho
>>
>>322446138
Because he thinks (correctly) that you're here to kill the beasts. He thinks that the beasts are people (they are, technically) and as such, they shouldn't be killed.
>>
>>322445447

From what I've gathered, when the Church began to use the paleblood of Ebrietas to do their experiments in order to create beings (celestial emissaries) that could contact other great ones, this use of forbidden blood created the beast plague transformation as a consequence. I'm pretty sure that the ultimate goal of the Moon Presence is to maintain some kind of balance with humanity, which is why it beckoned Gehrman and became the host of the Hunter's Dream. Remember, a Hunter's job is to hunt beasts, not the Great Ones.

Also, I don't think that the fact that the MP could be working towards supremacy as an ultimate goal could be false either, since it attacks you when you gain eyes on the inside. Souls games have always been very ambiguous and mysterious, so a lot is possible.

Can I join what ever faction I want?
>>
>>322445447
OK so this might sound retarded, but hear me out first:

I posit that all the Great Ones that have control over the Nightmare (you get NIGHTMARE SLAIN from their deaths) can control the Moon to varying degrees. The MP is the most powerful of the 3, and it wants you to assassinate Mergo and the Orphan of Kos to get them off its turf. The reason why the Orphan isn't required to beat the vanilla game and unlock Gehrmans fight is because From didn't want to lock the games ending behind a dlc paywall.

As I said before, the MP is the most proficient at controlling the Moon, it can drop the bloodred moon on multiple planes of existences at once.

Mergo and the Orphan have a weaker control, they can only effect the Moon within their own Nightmares, and their influence doesn't extend any farther. The Orphan is responsible for the fucked-up moon in the Hunters Nightmare. Mergo blocks the bloodred moon in the Nightmare of Mensis. Recall that the MP is beckoned by Mergo, and drops the Moon in response. However, in the Nightmare of Mensis, the Moon is gigantic, but still pale white. I'm saying that since the MP is trying to get to Mergo, the Moon should be red as fuck and in your face like in the post-Rom and pre-MP fight cutscenes. The fact that it's not is Mergos doing.

The MP is basically butthurt at other great ones for stealing it's job. At least that's my interpretation. I'm sure that holes can be poked in it, especially declaring doing the dlc in NG, pre-Gehrman, canon.

>>322446406
Some factions are just explanations as to certain things (holy weapons generally came from the Church Hunters, explosives from Powder Kegs), but others you can join by equipping the right type of item. All joinable factions are based on multiplayer focused, anyways.

You will generally learn this shit through item descriptions and putting 2 and 2 together from the shit you see. However, Dhurja's explanation that he thinks beasts are people can only be heard if you approach him from a certain path, otherwise he'll just say that they're harmless locked in Old Yharnam and you should fuck off.

You're back the front with the Powder Kegs, they were heretics of Gehrman's workshop because their loud weapons, inspired by the fledgling Oto Workshop, deviated from his hunting method. They proved their worth when they were contracted by the church to purge Old Yharnam.

The church then based their weaponry off of the powder kegs fighting method because the scourge was no longer a secret after Old Yharnam, and it was getting worse, they needed larger weapons and more firepower to take out the bigger beasts.

no no no, the very first hunters were done in secret. you get this from the hunter armor when it says that you stalked beasts in night. it was only after the Ashen plague that took old yharnam did everyone become aware of beasts infecting everything did hunts become public knowlage. this was also the time that the healing church stepped into the light and 'cured' everyone of the ashen plague with blood transfusions, which would end up creating more beasts, which necessitated the creation of the Healing Church workshop to run the hunts.

Or when there are a ton of notes saying,"beware ambush" lying around and you're scared shitless because you don't know where they gonna come from. Idk man, maybe I am just a bit of a pussy
>>
>>322446694
no no no, the very first hunters were done in secret. you get this from the hunter armor when it says that you stalked beasts in night. it was only after the Ashen plague that took old yharnam did everyone become aware of beasts infecting everything did hunts become public knowlage. this was also the time that the healing church stepped into the light and 'cured' everyone of the ashen plague with blood transfusions, which would end up creating more beasts, which necessitated the creation of the Healing Church workshop to run the hunts. the ten a penny is a reference to when the common man took up arms in the hunt during the ashen plague

the first hunters were basically MIB for the healing church before it went public by killing it's mistakes.

Not those anons but I usually play with headphones and the constant shrieking and cries from the enemies can get on my nerves. Some boss fights I had to take them off cause it was getting too distracting.

The only part I was legitimately spooked in was the Upper Cathedral Ward area right before the ayyliums where it's all dark and the werewolves and brainsuckers can jumpscare you. Also those giant meatsack cart enemies in Yahargul are kinda unnerving too.

I can definitely tell where you coming from. In any Souls game I'm in full suspense mode in pretty much any new area, and Bloodborne really amplified it, but I feel like it was more of a "I could get killed any second and have to start over again" vibe than "aah I'm so spooked right now."

Honestly the only things that scare me now are jumpscares, which really sucks.

You stalk beasts at night because because it's easier to sneak up on them that way, not because you're some black ops wetwork squad. The weapons of the hunters are extremely ill-suited for stealth operations, as is their fighting style, going all the way back to Gehrman. Plus, it's not like you can hide the werewolves that are mauling everyone, word gets out that Neighbor Jonny transformed into a monster monster and murdered his whole family, before being put down by a squad of superhumans with saws, shotguns, and nothin personnel dodges. You can forbid them to talk about it, but they all still know, at which point secrecy is useless

then how come the old workshop is completely locked away from the rest of the world? how come no one recognizes the saw hunter badge, when it was the symbol of hunters? how come everyone forgot that there was a whole other group of hunters that wasn't part of the Healing Church?

the first hunters operated in secret when the beast plague wasn't anywhere near what it is now. it only got out of hand when the group that would become the healing church accidently created the Ashen plague that took old Yharnam, which they then cured with blood ministration, which led to a massive surge in beasts, which the church, now an established foundation, created their own workshop to deal with the plague. after they had their own one, they quietly closed down the old one because they didn't need to work in secret anymore and destroyed the entrance to the first workshop

ffs, the Church wasn't established until after the Ashen Plague, which was created by the people that would found the plague because they were experimenting with the poison of the forbidden forest. during the plague, they sweeped and 'saved' everyone with blood healing, which led to the founding of the church so they could continue their experiments into great one blood openly with the support of the people.

Saw hunter badge description
>"Badge crafted long ago at the Workshop. Attests to one's prowess as a hunter of beasts.

The Workshop is gone, and no group recognizes this meaningless badge, except the messengers in the bath, Who understand its profundity.

Certain things can only be entrusted with a hunter in possession of this badge, or so they believe."

My TV is 9ms I think, and I definitely noticed a bit of input delay going from a 2ms monitor, but a lot of that was to do with a shit ton of post processing trash your TV has set to on by default. Skill's really good. Don't expect to stagger anything though. Dodge into attacks, you're literally invincible while dodging. Cane is considered serrated while in whip form, so you deal bonus damage to Beasts.
Cleric Beast doesn't really need any special treatment, apart from bashing his head for a Visceral Attack.

you're fine. stay near his weak arm, have the cane transformed (serated weapons do more damage to beasts), whip him a few times (if you are lucky you will hit his head too) then transform attack back to normal mode.

>>322452816
Cane is tough to work with since it has only one big strength (range) and a lot of weaknesses (low raw power early on, slowish, doesn't stagger well) and speed+staggering is usually the easiest way to deal with things.

Just use saw spear for now and upgrade to holy blade once you get access to it since it scales with skill and str.

The Threaded Cane is my favourite of the three starting weapons but it's also definitely the most difficult to start with, as it doesn't do as much damage as the other two or have a strong spammable attack like the Hunter's Axe. Cleric Beast has a fair amount of HP so he can be tough to beat with it on your first playthrough unless you upgrade it once or twice. You can skip him if you don't want to fight him right now, since all beating him does is allow you to buy the Kirkhammer (which is a Strength weapon) and a key that lets you bypass an upcoming section.

A lot of the better Skill weapons are in the DLC or late in the game unfortunately. Well, that goes for most of the weapons in this game.

It's the blood red moon and/or Moon presence

They not only straight up tell you this ("Behold! A Paleblood sky!") but right from the beginning you seek paleblood to "transcend (not just escape) the hunt," which happens when you kick MP's ass.
>>
>>322452076
pretty sure the church was established before the ashen plague:

"Attire of special Church doctors.

These doctors are superiors to the black preventative hunters, and specialists in experimentally-backed blood ministration and the scourge of the beast.

They believe that medicine is not a means of treatment but rather a method for research. and that some knowledge can only be obtained by exposing oneself to sickness."

>says so right there, the workshop is gone, and the only one that recognizes it are the messengers.

and this proves what? I agreed the workshop is gone and only the messengers recognize the saw hunter badge

I don't think they would be so blatant about it, though. Just hear me out for a minute.

You need to seek Paleblood to transcend the hunt. Obviously, all of the Great Ones and Kin possess blood that is pale in color. When you "transcend the hunt," you actually BECOME a great one yourself, thus obtaining Paleblood in the process. The Healing Church has been using the blood of the Great Ones in order to reach a higher plane of existence, which gives the emissaries pale blood.

As for the note you mentioned, it's written like a excerpt from some kind of report and it's even found in the Byrgenwerth lecture hall IIRC, a place to study the Great Ones from the labyrinth. The note mentions the MP and ends with just one word to classify it as a Great One: "Paleblood."

The word couldn't possibly just be an alias to only the Moon/MP.

Bloodborne is mean to its NPCs though, almost every named NPC is fucked and only a handful survive the night.
