If I am not deriving joy from playing the game, I'm 99% sure that it's not a good game. Even in story-focused games, if they are not enjoyable, they are not good. A game that would somehow be "good" despite not being at all fun to play would imply that it's well-made, and if the draw is that it's a game that's intentionally unfun, joy would be derived from muscling through the unfun elements of the game. If it is genuinely not fun to play, it's just a bad game.
