What would your ideal Star Trek video game be like?

half choose your own adventure visual novel, half turn based strategy
>>
>>322422949
Sooo....Basically KOTOR with Star Trek?
>>
>>322422454
One where combat isn't the main attraction. Most Star Trek games (and films, for that matter) fail to understand the core concept of what Star Trek is about.

Yes

Just give me another bridge simulator type game. It's been long enough and they were fantastic.

It would be similar to Star Citizen, as far as scope. It would be a game which the main objective is to explore. Opinions, factions, alliances etc. would change depending on how you handled different situations (Diplomacy, Combat, engineering). There would be away missions too, both planet side, and ship to ship.

The downside is this probably won't ever happen, and if it did it would be based on the movies, rushed to completion, and a huge disappointment to trek fans.

Halfway between Anniversary/Judgment Rites type adventure game and Star Control 2-styled fleet builder/exploration game.

Hybrid of Bridge Commander and Elite Force but with a focus on puzzles and dialogue with not that much combat.

An adventure game where you control a dozen different characters. Captain, Ensign, Chief Engineer, Science Officer, Doctor, Chief of Security, etc. Half the game would be on the Enterprise dealing with intense situations to keep the ship in order, the other half would be away missions on various planets.

Romulans and Ferengi would also be the main antagonists.

A game like Starfleet Academy, but with an actual good combat engine and no cheesy movies.

Basically, Tie Fighter but in the Star Trek Universe. So a focus on large capital ships and not being a fighter pilot.

Can I get a Star Trek game where I play as the Borg and assimilate everything I come into contact with?
>>
>>322422454
EVE size with Elite Dangerous graphics, with a KOTOR Story and a species split and war like WoW

I think the Armada games had the Borg as a playable faction.

Elite Dangerous + Star Trek Online

With alternate timelines, you could make a whole game where Picard stayed as Lucutis and took over Earth.

A game where I can love a Vulcan.
>>
A diplomacy simulator.
>>
FTL but more in depth.
Flexibility in solving disputes through dialogue/nonlethal combat/other skills
A bit more free roam, depending on your mission/ultimate goal.

Maybe like Sunless Sea. Or just reskin EVE ship flight controls
>>
>>322426168

I would honestly love a game focused on a Vulcan Science Vessel. Preferably in unexplored space.
>>
Deep Space 9>Next Generation>Voyager=Original Series>Enterprise
>>
>>322426420
Even better, you're half human/half vulcan and the game's morality system is based around doing what's most logical versus taking the emotional route.

Being half human, you're chosen as the liaison for communicating with other races and your logic meter affects how successful you are with negotiations with other races, depending on their preference.

There's a new series coming soon that IS canon, so we'll see what happens with the JJ movies.

>>
>>322427683

I hate the JJ Abrams movies (and all his stuff) more than anyone. But sadly, it is canon. Because of the weak 'alternate universe' plot point. And Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner working so hard to justify its existence.

An open world RPG game in the style of Bridge Commander. With Planescape: Torment levels of dialogue choices and puzzles to let you really make a playthough your own and force you to think. With slow paced, strategic combat peppered throughout it.
>>
>>322427424
Only good this JJ did to Star Trek is make it so Scotty killed Archer's stupid dog.

JJ did right by Star Wars though, he really captured the spirit of the original trilogy. I wish the same level of effort and passion had been put into Star Trek.
>>
>>322429739

You mean by remaking A New Hope?
>>
>>322428190

>being frustrated, angry and borderline psychotic

Sisco doesn't have the best actor ever. But he wasn't crying. Sounds more like you're one of those people who only understands three emotions. And lumps everything aside from happy and angry into 'sad'.
>>
>>322428995
You got me. I couldn't make it very far at all. I caught the random episodes on TV way back when, and Odo was the shit. Maybe I will try it again. It's just weird to me that I did not immediately like a trek captain.

Plus, his kid sucks, all I could think about is every one turning into one of those "worf's son" episodes.

>>322429739

Its not hard to copy something. Even a monkey can rewrite Shakespeare if you give them enough tries.

Taking a known property and innovating it, while also appealing to the fans, is one of the hardest things to do in all of media. JJ Abrams knows this and just ignores it. Either throwing the fans under the bus (Star Trek) or copying the source material exactly (Star Wars).
>>
>>322429912
Yup. Fans had been crying for over 15 years now that they wanted old Star Wars back, so JJ gave them old Star Wars.
>>
>>322428190
>>322429940
Let's not. I admitted to not watching very many, because I didn't like sisko. Has nothing to do with me being a mongoloid. It's an opinion based on minimal experience. Let's leave it at that.

>>
>>322422454
There are too many at this point, but honestly I'd want to see Telltale Games do one. I imagine it going after the Star Trek Animated series, focusing a bit on corn and a bit on serious traditional Trek. Each episode could be a two-hour long self-contained episode, rather than a 5-part story.
>>
>>322430139
>Even a monkey can rewrite Shakespeare if you give them enough tries.

I had to do a proof of this for a thermal/statistical physics class once

apparently if you had 6billion monkeys hammering away at typewriters, itd take longer than the age of the universe before one would reproduce any work of shakespeare

now you know
and knowing is half the battle

Trek really shit the bed after next gen. It's like they couldn't have made it any more boring. Fucking Scott bacula
>>
>>322432263

Borg are a scifi version of Zombies. No human connection or interaction. Just mindless enemies who either win or die. Except for a few episodes like i, Borg and the Borg Queen.
>>
>>322424634
>tfw
>>
>>322432672
theyre not mindless, theyre like bees. got the hivemind

the problem with the borg is, instead of getting bitchin cybernetic upgrades, they look like they went through the bargain bin at goodwill
>>
>>322423179
This. It needs to be an adventure game...with puzzles. So not one by TellTale.
>>
>>322432951

I was talking about their role in the story. Not their look. They really are like Zombies in terms of plot and character interaction. Which isn't good in a series known for heavy character development and interaction.
>>
It was cool when Picard was like 90% borg for a couple episodes
>>
>>322433163
The Borg worked in TNG because they used them very sparingly and focused on the idea of what the Borg represented as a giant individual-less hivemind, contrasting it with the Federation ideal of strength through cooperation. They went downhill in First Contact and Voyager because they used them as generic baddies.

The first real appearance of the Borg had them get shredded just to set up the new more powerful baddies. That's like D-tier writing.
>>
I really like Star Trek other than the space combat. Why the fuck can they miss with phasers? They're basically light speed weapons with fuckhuge computers that should be able to aim them without missing ever. It's so fucking bullshit that I can't suspend my disbelief.

I'd love a fucking adventure or puzzle game though. Diplomacy maybe too.
>>
>>322433921
You think a civilization that can invent phasers can't invent countermeasures against phasers? Probably sensor interference technology or something.

>galaxy full of aliens of all different types
>every last species has 2 arms, 2 legs, and mostly human features.

I wish they had a bigger budget.
>>
>>322434730

They did a specific episode in Next Gen covering why every alien race is humanoid in appearance. They all came from one proto race.

And even then, there's plenty of species with multiple arms, multiple eyes, etc. Like that 6 armed piano player who sings Klingon Opera.

I prefer humanoid aliens to what Doctor Who does honestly.
