For a live LP, definitely. Doing live commentary while watching your footage back can be a little easier given that you aren't having to concentrate on playing and talking and being interesting all at once.
If you heavily cut and edit your stuff like I do then scripting is much easier. Even the live LP I did with my buddy was later cut down into 'moments' and re-recorded for quality and brevity purposes.

The best thing I've found is to find a compromise between "What will people watch" and "What do I enjoy making"
Once you've found that, it's a case of advertising correctly to places that have people who are interested in what you put out. Posting Deus Ex videos on a forum dedicated to Minecraft is obviously going to get you nowhere, and unfortunately creating videos of old or niche vidya are also unlikely to bring in a viewership.
For reference, out of a bunch of videos on my channel, three are aboutDestiny.One was advertised three times and garnered 15,000 views and gained the channel just over 1000 new subscribers in a week. One was advertised once, has 2,400 views and gained us maybe 50 subscribers over a week, and the last wasn't advertised at all, we gained maybe 12 subs over the course of that week which were probably related to other videos we'd put out, including the more popular ones we'd already advertised.
You don't tell people you exist and they wont get the chance to check you out, let alone subscribe. Just try not to pander if you're self conscious about what you put out seeming dumb, put out what you wanna put out anon.

I'll try to forget my dignity and viral the shit out of it, but I'm mostly doing it because I like talking about vidya and YouTube might be the best way to do that.
I've completely written and recorded two videos worth of dialogue and gameplay.
Now to just finish a few photoshop and after effect assets and do some video editing. Hopefully will have both videos done before this coming Saturday.

Im hoping in a week or two. I have a lot of footage to fit into the story but the bank heist is my most complicated scene, since it was a mix of multiple runs and editor footage and fraps 3rd person view and theres some first person in there too. All the other shots I hand did all the camera work already.

I understand that some anger comes with the territory when you post unwarranted "Watch my vid!" posts, but it works for some people, and every time I do it I end up with 4 views and 8 dislikes. It's a net loss every time.
