What are some games that will make me feel the vastness of space?
Hard Mode: Must have actual gameplay -- No Universe Sandbox or Space Engine.
Master Ninja: No Kerbal Space Program

well freespace will make you feel the vastness of the enemy capital ship bearing down on your tiny fighter, and since the capital ship has to fit into space, that also needs to be vast

Gal Civ II on largest possible map with only a few AI opponents.
No Man's Sky will probably be like this when it releases.
Also Pulsar: Lost Colony, but it's in early access and requires a team to work together to crew the ship, so you need friends.

You could check out the old Elites, or Noctis IV.
But really, the way I understand it, Elite: Dangerous isn't actually all that multiplayer heavy.
