The story is pretty shitty and had absolutely no purpose in the series. The game not even existing would have made no difference at all. I know it's both a sequel and a prequel, but even Peace Walker did a better job in that awkward position.
The only thing I credit the game with is that the cassette tapes repaired Zero's character after MGS4 destroyed it.

MGSV accomplishes less than fucking Ghost Babel in many departments, many of which have nothing to do with Konami being retarded and shipping an unfinished game.
I'd recommend stopping at Peace Walker and then playing Policenauts or something.

Hell, you can skip all the Big Boss games aside from MGS 3. Peace Walker and MGS V didn't really deliver on a fleshed-out downfall, and the less of The Boss' ideology the better.

4 would have been better if they added more gameplay sections. I don't take the story seriously, I love it because it's cheesy and fun.
V, it didn't really have that cheesiness which is what I come to expect from MG games. I felt they were trying to too hard with the seriousness thing. I get it's supposed to be darker, but I don't think that's what people really wanted from Metal Gear. The mission whereyou kill your own soldierswas pretty depressing though, I'll give them that.
Kind of surprised they MGSV doesn't have a Octo-camo DLC. The Octo-camo was a pretty fun mechanic.
