TW2 feels much more intricate and detailed whether it be writing or the locations and designs etc. The combat is so responsive and smooth, it's like I'm playing Call of Duty. When I press forward, Geralt instantly moves forward. My only problem with it was the console inventory. Everything else was so smooth.

I played 8 hours of heart gold and it was literally for children. World building was ALL about pokemons, everyone was talking about pokemon and pokemons pokemons pokemons, pretty oppressive to be honest.
Also I was winning every battle with the same attack over and over, no matter the weakness of the enemy.
Maybe it's the online aspect which I have to say I haven't played, because I don't play online and so if that's the case my bad.

In a different context, the secret door that you can access in GH would be seen as a cool and fun thing "you can complete the game right from the start by doing this!", in the same way that finding the power armor in Fallout 2 is a cool thing, but because GH is representative of something that the average /v/ user doesn't like, its minimum completion time is used as a detriment.
Now, of course, there are valid issues to talk about here: Gone Home is completed very quickly. However, completion time alone isn't a valid thing to disparage a game.
I, personally, think that 20 bucks, or whatever it was, is a bit much for GH. I payed very little for it due to a humble bundle sale. But after actually playing it, it became clear that a lot of the hate is political. Biased sites like Polygon, more interested in the political philosophy of the game, rather than the game itself, gave it game of the year and 10/10 and shit like that, and so, the average /v/ user being the reactionary idiots that they are, need to think that GH is one of the worst games ever and completely unenjoyable.
As someone that enjoys exploring in games and doesn't have an aneurysm at every single "progressive" idea, I had fun with GH. It's by no means a 10/10 games, or game of the year, but it's fun and interesting, and honestly it's easier to understand the people that overhype the game than the people that think it's total shit.

It's more accurate to say that the people that didn't 'like' it, disliked it not because it was a 'bad' game, but because they disliked the place they felt it was pushing games toward.
The story is fine. Admittedly, it's been a while since I've played it, so the specific details are fuzzy to me, but it's essentially just a story about a girl pursuing a relationship that her parents are against. It's not really a groundbreaking story by any measure, but it's a solid basis. The telling of the main story is somewhat awkward through the audio diaries or whatever they were, and that is a very valid criticism, but it's not bad enough to ruin the game.
The characters are mostly developed well enough, the mother is an obvious weak point, which is ironic given the supposedly progressive viewpoint it's supposed to represent. The father is one of the most fun and accessible character's to learn about and helps to add another layer of depth to the story instead of the parent characters just being these evil people that are hurting this one daughter's life path.
The game play is exploration, and it does it well enough. I mean, none of these is objective, and you can dislike or like anything, but I enjoyed looking around at all the little details that reveal parts of the story or even just the secondary story about family life, and the cassette tapes were a touch that I really enjoyed.
I think that there are valid criticisms to be made about the game, and probably lots of criticisms that I overlooked about the story, characters, and exploration, but it feels to me like the people that really dislike the game on here don't often get into any interesting specifics. More often it seems to be stuff about completion time, and dislike of the agenda they feel it's pushing forward. That is, either irrelevant shit or shit that feels more based on political philosophy than actual craft.
