The Borderlands games are good and require teamwork. Castle Crashers is good, Minecraft works if he's a toddler, you could also teach him a fighting game (SF, Smash, whatever works).
Rayman Origins, NSMB, and Mario 3D World are also pretty fun to play together.

I would have loved if my dad played Pokemon with me as a kid. he wouldn't even have had to play, he could have just known some of the characters. I think showing an interest in things he enjoys is probably the best step, it shows that you validate his choices. I'm sure once he sees you in that light, he'll want to play whatever you're interested in yourself. good luck man.
