Compared to the bloody, corpse filled Hunter's nightmare, the intricate Research hall and the intensely atmospheric Fishing Hamlet, the areas in AotA can come off as relatively blasé and nondescript, and the areas in the Old Hunters give you just as much of an insight into the world and story of BB as AotA did

The bosses couldn't be any more story related, you learn the fate of pivotal members of the Healing Church, find the source of the corruption, and see what the Doll was like as a hunter.
Compared to AtoA, where there are two completely random bosses.
