Darkest Dungeon thread?
I'm ramping up to the first boss, but I don't think I have a good enough team. Who's good for running without getting loads of stress or incurring lots of damage?
>>322365230
>Who's good for running
Usain Bolt
run MAA in slot 1 with rampart with crusader in the second slot for those delicious holy lances. I'd use a plague doctor since blight is good against pretty every boss. Just take a vestal with you against the necromancer cause you dont want to put up with the fuck up potential of browntown
Name a better lineup than
>Crusader
>Man at Arms
>Plague Doctor
>Vestal
You cant.
>>322367173
i personally enjoy
>Leper
>Bounty Hunter
>Vestal
>Arbalest
Vestal is so good, I feel she overshadows the other healers a little bit too muchI'm not saying she needs a nerf, only that the rest should be brought up a little more to her level
>>322367173
Replace plague with bounty hunter.
>>322367173
>Crusader
>Bounty Hunter
>Houndmaster
>Vestal
>>322367541
You kidding? Plague doctor is pretty much the best. Can cure everyone of diseases while on the mission, cures bleeding and blight, and does massive damage/stuns to the back row
>Crusader
>Crusader
>Crusader
>Crusader
HOLY ONSLAUGHT
>>322365230
Depends on where the first boss area you unlocked is. Is it in the ruins? If so Crusader, Highwayman, Vestal, Arbalest is a really good composition to deal with Necromancer.
>>322368001
That lineup can actually work. It would actually be really OP if they could use battle heal from the back.
>>322365230
Is there any other example of a game that was massively popular and well balanced then was utterly ruined by poor management?
Darkest Dungeon is unplayable random shit now.
>>322365230
For everyone here.
The right combination of characters with the appropriate skills (both camping and combat ones), equipment (both the weapon and armor upgrades, as well as trinkets) and provisions in a team are a key in surviving a dungeon.
Also Virtues and even frickin Rabies can be beneficial.
>>322365230
Get two Abominations.
Get a Houndmaster with evasion, add Mark ability to strip Prot.
Get a Jester or MaA to boost speed and support.
>>322367173
>Crusader
>Man at Arms
>Plague Doctor
>Occultist
What do I win?
>>322368313
I'd say Tribes Ascend, although it wasn't massively popular. People played Tribes 2 over it, even on release.
>>322365230
Just lost my first group at the swine prince.
It was ranked lvl1 but he managed to one hit on mass with every strike.
What level are you meant to tackle bosses?
>>322368313
If you can figure out a winning strategy within 2 missions you're probably clinically retarded
>>322368001
>crusader gets pushed into the back row
>bring him forward and win the fight with a holy lance crit
every single time
Occultist > Abomination > MaA > Jester with finale to move them straight to the back
>>322368518
I don't like to bring occultists as my main healer. Even though they can be better, the reliability of the vestals is a lot better in my opinion.
>>322368001
The only correct way to play
>>322367487
>more damage
>more utility than a single stun
>camping skills leagues the vestal's
>makes good naan bread
plus he can heal for more even if the vestal has her healing trinket
>yfw
>>322368637
>Winning strat
>In a game based completely on random luck
Someone hasn't played much.
>>322369071
Can you stop baiting please? We're having a good thread rn.
>>322369071
>game has always been about making the best out of any bad situation
>people complain that they randomly get bad situations
ayy
>>322367173
>abomination
>abomination
>abomination
>abomination
>keep my torch at 100 because I don't like being surprised
>still get surprised
>enter a dungeon
>first enemy is The Collector
>surprises my party even though I am at 82 light
>have to spend two turns getting pounded in the ass
What the fuck is this shit? Any way to completely remove this mechanic?
The collector is such a piece of shit. I nearly kill my best party trying to kill him and all I get is a rock worth 2500 gold.
Next time I'm just retreating and abandoning quest
What boss? I was worried about my first boss too, because I had a team I really cared about, but it went way better than expected. I had a Jester, Occultist and 2 Abominations. They ran train on the Necromancer and I felt good enough to bring them into the Swine fight and they did that one pretty well too.
Just be prepared. I never fought the Prophet and lost because I couldn't hit the back line quickly enough.
>>322368961
mfw Song of desire
>start game, completely new
>embark for the first time
>my full party dies in miserable ways starting with a heart attack on the priestess
nice
>>322369334
Was wondering about this myself.
>early access
Nope.
>>322369597
>>322369334
There's a trinket called ancestor's lantern that pretty much makes it impossible to be surprised
>>322369334
Yes. Use camping skills, or bring the Ancestor's lantern.
>>322369370
You're going to miss out on the Heads
>>322369656
It's out in 16 days, calm your tits you fucking sperg
>>322369334
You still can be surprised at 100 light, the chance is just minimal
>>322369778
Keep believing that you dumbfuck.
>>322369704
heads suck.
also you can escape the fight and there is a chance that the collector will be replaced by another random encounter
>>322369704
I've killed him 3 times in champion missions and nearly lost my entire party without getting the heads.
It isn't worth it.
Who is the worst character and why is it Jester?
I seriously can think of a single reason to have him on your lineup other than stress healing
>>322369778
Yet it happens every dungeon
>>322369562
>actually managing to get to 200 stress
How do people do it?
>>322369760
Games that are released in early access are forever tainted as pieces of shit.
>>322370093
Good bleed and mobility, synergies well with the crusader
>>322370093
Nah, Leper is the worst. He exists so he dies before your other party members do
>>322370093
The stupid dog fucker, that's the worst.
>>322370093
That is his only role, I feel, but I like him. I think jesters/clowns are really underrepresented in vidya, so I really enjoy using him and because stress is a lot more of a pain in the ass to heal than health is, so he's worth it if you're using Abominations. To me, at least.
>get a bunch of garbage trash characters
>take abomination and dismiss the rest so I get more next round
>try to embark with team, don't remember what it was but I think leper abomination plague and vestal
>"I don't wanna embark with this guy!"
>literally nothing up to this point implies they wouldn't want to embark with abomination
I felt cheated and had to restart because I only had those 4 faggots and I couldn't embark. I wasn't very far but I'm still bitter about it because I had a cool trinket mask for my leper.
>>322370226
>hating based houndmaster
he's probably one of the strongest characters in the game famlito.
>>322370093
Grave Robber, the only thing she's useful for is her blight skill
Jester at least can be either a party buffer or a bleed stacker
>>322370226
Houndmaster is the best fucking class in the game for warrens/weald
>>322370160
I read a book
GLITTERING GOLDTRINKETS AND BAUBLESPaid for in blood...
>>322370093
>Still not understanding that every class has their own utility against specific dungeons/bosses.
>>322370441
man, grave rober is the best girl
At first I didn't really mind how much this game was like a mobile game. But once I actually got enough heirlooms and a bunch of high-levels the game gets boring, especially with the repetitive dungeons
>>322370361
Yeah, they shouldn't just refuse to embark with the abomination.
Instead the crusader/vestal/leper should just take extra stress damage and refuse to use any skills to help them
>>322365230
I got the game on sale and i really like how it plays. Then i read up on how it has no ending and i stopped playing it and uninstalled it. I have no drive to grind forever, so i'll just wait till they finish it until i play it again.
Wouldn't have bought it if i knew they didn't even have a end. Still a fun game tho.
>>322370998
My guess is it's more for a release build, if more hero classes get released it won't be as much of a problem.
So who's harder, the Shambler or the Collector?
>>322370998
>take extra stress damage and refuse to use any skills to help them
i really like that idea actually
>>322371117
It's finished on the 18th I believe
isn't this game now ruined by the devs?
>>322371425
If you're a casual faggot with the strategic capabilities of a lobotomized homeless man
>>322371425
Only if your a pussy bitch and can't adapt.
>>322371256
I don't think the shambler can summon highwaymen that can instantly kill level 5 guys with a crit + bleed
>>322371425
Nope. Only morons that can't or refuse to adapt would say otherwise.
>>322371425
The devs listened to what people posted on the Steam forums to their detriment. They've flipflopped over some pretty shitty design choices for a lot of months now.
>>322371256
Collector isn't that hard.
>>322371156
Not that anon, but I do wonder what things there will be for the new build.
Heard rumors that there'll be a relationship system implemented.
>>322371256
Shambler. BIG TIME.
Collector is piss easy even for apprentice class adventurers. You first stun him, then bleed and blight him, and then mark him so that characters who benefit from markings can tear him a new one.
Shambler is literally a bonus boss that requires high-level adventurers with max upgrades to beat.
>>322371425

Honorable mention to Highway man
he's boss as fuck too
>>322371425
I got it a few days ago and have a most 20 people at level 5 with 4/4 weapons and armor about to start lvl 5 runs. I've even been playing with corpses and heart attacks. It's not that bad you just have to prepare well with a good team composition for the area/boss, upgrade your shit and not open every fucking curio you see unless you have the correct item.
People ACTUALLY just need to git gud and stop being little whiny bitches
>>322371975
Take everything you can. Your aim is to acquire trinkets and heirlooms to upgrade the Guild and Blacksmith. Gold>topazes and jades. Green trinkets will help you well till the end.
>>322371975
You can endlessly recruit new people each "week"
Do suicide runs with throwaway level 0 recruits if you're low on cash
Kick out low level guys with high stress/bad quirks/diseases instead of spending money to fix them, you can easily replace them
Don't start upgrading characters until you actually require them to stay alive

i wish it was easier to get parties like this without needing to harvest the stage coach over 10 weeks hoping enough show up
>>322374161
Not that anon, but I also think so.
Also I bet the Darkest Dungeon will be for max. level adventurers only.
All this grinding and money collecting?
IT'S ALL FOR THIS.
And the monstrosities will probably have a shitload of stress-based attacks.

>WarrensExpedition.tiff
>>322373953
Getting virtues always pumps me the fuck up to finish the dungeon, even when everyone's on death's door. Heroes deserve memorable stories whether they live or die.
If you run a Vestal instead of an Occultist you're literally retarded
>>322373015
Wait you can kick out people now? Better play it again.
>>322374363
The narrator actually has done some Lovecraft reading audiobooks, check 'em out.
>>322374584

>>322374535
Yep. It turns all XCOM here.
Just like in the latter, you can come up with memorable stories about your band of characters going against impossible odds and either surviving or not.
>>322374383
Not for me. Just don't recruit characters that you don't plan on using. My runs are all basically
>Plague Cart
>The Inquisition
>The Black Plague
>The Greater Good
Maybe I'll have to expand later, but so far these are my favorite parties
>>322372135
>tfw you still have your bros Reynauld and Dismas even on week 199
You two have been with me since the beginning, and I'll be damned if you're not there in the end.
>>322374018
I've been hoping for a completely distinct type of enemies. Stuff like Shadow demons and shit like that. Dopplegengars would also be great for late game on Darkest Dungeon expeditions
>Enemy party of four black shadowy blobs
>They're weak, but have high dodge and are super fast
>Their first turn is spent copying a hero on the opposite lane
>Have to fight your own party
>first dungeon after the tutorial
>get fights on every single room
>everyone gets critted a lot, reach 100 stress before the half of the dungeon
>everyone develops stress generating traits
>they all die from a heart attack in the last room
Glad I didn't buy this shit.
should I upgrade wyrd reconstruction?

Wow, I guess your pride is intact at least.
>>322376463
That's impossible. The trinkets cycle as end rewards until you have all of them. Maybe it's equipped on someone?
>>322376913
Nope, I've had that savefile since the original release though, so maybe it's some odd glitch
My dudes keep getting critted and it makes them die or go insane (and then die). How do I stop the enemy from critting. They do it even when I have a fully lit torch.
How do I git gud
>>322377004
Maybe it's a Shambler only reward?
>>322377083
Abuse Death's Door so they don't die. Retreat from missions you can't finish.
>>322377083
Get a good vestal and heal them back, you should also invest in a plague doctor if your back row keeps getting crit by their back row.
Man at arms with defender is also great, since defender lasts two turns now you can just play him to protect the entire back row while having like 80% protection.
>>322377083
You can turn off enemy crits if you really want, but you need to be a pussy to do it.
