God, this entire thread is personally triggering. My gaming relationship with my friends is nothing but an eternal cycle of this shit. I will fucking hoot and holler and try to get them to get a certain game and they get butthurt as fuck when I'm not playing it anymore when they finally relent and buy it months later.
Whereas I will fucking buy a game the same week a friend asks me to get it and they stop playing it within the following week.
This is why I'm going back to single-player games almost exclusively.

It's not about ego stroking, there are some games that simply give you more enjoyment when they challenge you. Sometimes a harder game is more fun than an easy one because overcoming an obstacle is more satisfying than breezing through something mindlessly
