SFM is great though, tons of future cinematographers and pornographers have got their start with it. That's a pretty big contribution to the world by valve.
SFM is pretty good, but it's got some minor issues that always bug me.
It's pretty user-unfriendly, and doing some things feels way more convoluted than it really needs to be. For example, material overrides are super fuckin' handy, but always kind of annoying to use.
SFM has amazed me by spawning so much video game porn. I don't get why people weren't doing it sooner, its not like its any harder to animate this shit in maya or something.

Because blender etc are hard to get it to render good. Everything looks plasticy unless you know what you're doing. Since most people don't know what they're doing, it looks like shit.

I tried using it with Dota models, but found it a pain in the ass because they were essentially particle effects of the heroes and not the actual ragdolls or whatever they're called.
It was incredibly hard to pose and move them, but then again this was back when it first came out so it may have been improved since then.
