I never played 1 or 2 when they came out. I ended up playing them for the first time only a couple years ago. They hold up really well. The graphics weren't very good but the gameplay and story were phenomenal.

Yeah, they were pretty decent shooters back then, and not like there has been much of better TPS in the meanwhile.
1 has the best story and setting. 2 feels way more generic in style, you can tell they shelved the original writer but the gameplay gets expanded. Third one's kinda hit & miss.
Definitely, they're all quite enjoyable.

First is incredible. If absurdly punishing towards the end.
Second has a boring fucking story with boring fucking characters. Like holy shit they just drained the first of its eloquency and humour. Slight improvement in gameplay - you know can spam bullet time for EZ kills, but no real John Woo dives.
Third is a slight improvement over the second storywise but a massive improvement over both gameplay wise. The dives are BACK, baby. Also they load levels behind the cutscenes, get used to that.
So yeah, get the lot. First and second are a bit of a bitch to get running, first requires a sound fix and both need to be run in compatibility mode for 98/ME and as admin.

It was a good game, sure. I enjoyed it a lot the first time through, bad things set aside. But it's nowhere near the first two games, sadly. If all the technology would be put in a game with less cutscenes and more interactable, explorable world of 1 and 2, I would love it. Right now it's "only" good.
