This. I think Guy never doing VA work before helped. At times he sounded like just some normal guy. Others he sounded confused. I've always felt that him just being a guy fit James more. It may not be grounds for some major award but at the end when James demands that his guilt, in the form of the Pyramid Heads, leave him alone was decently delivered.
It's like some surreal perfect fit that you couldn't achieve by just hiring a generic overused VA. SH has normal people dealing with some serious shit and an actor trying too hard ruins it. Just be as normal as possible and react accordingly. Easier said than done of course but Guy nailed it without any prior VA work. He really is a bro. I loved his Holiday SH gift video a few years back.
I only thought Angela was particularly off but I have a shit ear for voice acting anyways. Like, it has to be BAD for it to register as awful for me. We're talking Chaos Wars here.
