I prefer the Vita, but it really comes down to what sort of games you enjoy. They're both decent handhelds.

This, but I still prefer the 3DS for solid games. The Vita is mostly just to sate my need for weeb pandering, lewd games.
Vita is great for digital game sales, though you might have to wait for games of interest to come around on sale, but the expensive memory cards could be off putting.I still hadn't bought one.
3DS (new or otherwise) can support SD (micro for new) cards, but there's barely many sales on first party titles, but if you like Atlus (SMT or EO especially) they're on sell often digitally.

There's Persona Q on the 3DS, but it's nothing like the Persona you know.
Persona 4 Golden is like a good expansion pack, the new additions work really well.
You should check out the new Legend of Heroes: Cold Steel the Hedgheg; it's a lot like Persona and it's really good.

It's been a big problem with the Vita since it's birth. The good exclusives can be counted on one hand. Nintendo is at least willing to foot the bill for exclusive 3DS games, Sony just doesn't care about the Vita.

Another thing I have to say is how much better the inputs are on Vita. That d-pad is godly and the dual sticks feel super nice. The circle pad is infuriating when I'm trying to play Ace Combat and the shoulder button arrangement is not great at all. The d-pad is nice enough though. The control clit they added is not a proper substitute for a second stick either, but I guess it works for basic stuff.

Persona 4 Golden, Killzone Mercenary, Gravity Rush (now has a PS4 port), Danganronpa 1 and 2, Wipeout 2048 and Tearaway to name the first things I saw sitting there in my physical collection. Also read through Steins;Gate on it recently but I guess that isn't really a game.
I'm pretty happy with every purchase I've made for the thing so far, I think I'm sitting on about 20 games total.

I enjoy both but preferred the Vita more. I mainly use the 3DS for pokemon, and since there was no main pokemon game this year... i barely touched it. (Only for Fire Emblem Fates)
