Team fail0ver have BTFO Sony again.

https://youtu.be/2A7V3GLWF6U

Everyone knows the exploit and method they used and will replicate it for delicious piracy. And they are releasing linux for PS4 that will further help piracy groups.

They have full kernal access it wont take long before they have exploits for newer firmwares too. This is how root/jailbreaking/homebrew always starts. They get a foot in old firmware and then its game over for Sony.

Thay actually deliberately waited so long since they wanted to ensure piracy wouldn't coem out of this anytime soon.
Unfortunately scene hackers have this retarded moralfag policy of only ripping consoles open near the end of their lifespan.
If anything comes out earlier it's only going to be a paid chink modchip or usb dongle. Proper scene solution won't come until late in PS4 lifespan.
>>
>>322301624
Those bundles are like 2 years old nigger. Where do they sell them? The new PS4 Bundles with Destiny come with the Taken King and it is already 2.0

They are running unsigned code and have full kernel access. They aren't meant to be able to that either but they can. The next step is basic. Its just fail0ver dont do warez but others will. The sony fanboy denial is hilarious though.

Having an old firmware hacked is a foot in the door to find other exploits much much faster, then you test to see if those exploits are extant on current firmware.

>>322302632
Not to mention it didnt get patched until later 2.xx firmware so even a good portion of those will still be hackable right now.

In the ps3's case the exploits that preceded the public 3.41 usb trick (which came out when 3.41 was the current fimrware) were kept privateish so it's hard to say how long they were banging around trying to find a current firmware exploit.

I spent a good half hour pacing around my house racking my brain and thinking this over, I think I'll be fine for now but I really hope this doesn't lead to piracy. I just can't deal with that right now. Everything was going so well for the Playstation 4 and now a few troublemakers have to screw that up. I'm thinking of adding a few more games to my backlog, the fans can offset any money lost from piracy and every little bit helps.

But hey, thanks for backing you uninformed opinion with facts. Oh wait...

>It seems that the PS4 security architecture is rather straightforward and simple; the OS is based on FreeBSD, and the browser uses WebKit, both of which are open source. It is relatively easy to find exploits in both of them (all things considered), and that is all you need to chain into a loader.
>>
>>322307460
Hardware sales will go through the roof even more than it already has. Sony isnt losing jack.
>>
>>322300185
I never pirated a 360 game in my 9 years of owning the system, truly don't care about this.
>>
>>322309006
>I hope it doesnt lead to piracy
Its been around before this exploit. Furthermore this exploit is almost a month hold now and I'm glad some people are at least doing something with it.

The piracy is a somewhat well kept secret at the moment, but what we do know is that it was discovered in Brazil and takes use of a raspberry pi.

The kernel exploit is a bit different. What you can do is somewhat limited even if you can abuse it.

Furthermore
>hurr 1.76
Yeah and ps3 managed to get downgrading possible to get back to the exploitable firmware. Its not like its impossible.

To the OP, I hate you for making this thread and drawing all the uneducated out, but I also love you as I rarely get to bitch about how people are wrong and uneducated.
>>
>>322309492
There is no profit or small loss on hardware.Hardware is loss leader they need to sell games and people buying to hack wont be buying any. This is not good for Sony.
>>
>>322309492
Hardware sales aren't good for profits. Even when they don't lose money they don't make much.

PSP lost a whole lotta bucks for that reason.
>>
>>322309457
I already have. They intend to patch their linux kernel further and their bootstrap code to get their linux kenerl booted. That's it.
Nothing to do with an exploit that wasn't even their own. Just linux.
>>
>>322309798
Yeah because no one else will use the same exploit and use their linux kernel to run warez loaders.
>>
>>322310323
Oh my god dude just stop. You're making an ass of yourself.
>>
>>322301170
Yea that's why you can jailbreak a PS3 above 3.55OFW right?

Oh wait, you can't.
The only way is to downgrade it back down to 3.55 using hardware you have to solder to the motherboard.
>>
>>322310963
You are delusional. Piracy ALWAYS comes after system has been so completely hacked.
>>
>>322311373
Sony have made 12 different kinds of PS3 at least since 2006, nearly half of those are hackable with downgrades to 3.55, most are optical/bluray drive hackable to play ISOs or custom apps with modchip hardware.
>>
Why is Webkit so exploitable? Everything seems to revolve around Webkit exploits these days. Can someone explain that to me?
>>
>>322311691
>Reading comprehension

It's exactly as I said in reply to that post, you can't jailbreak it above 3.55, you need to downgrade it back down to it if it's above that.
Which requires soldering seperate hardware to the MB.
The post I replied to implied once you found one exploit they could jailbreak later firmwares easily. Which just isn't the case.
Some newer PS3 models can't even be downgraded with the seperate hardware mod.

>>
>>322301005
Didn't Sony cockblocked pirates for about 5 years with the PS3? Sounds pretty good to me. 360 was hacked very early.
>>
>>322313713
We were talking about the PS3.
It could work differently on the PS4 for all we know.
But for example, if they find an exploit right now for the latest firmware, it would work on all models currently for sale, newest included.

It's always been this way.
They could find a way to downgrade it back down to exploitable firmwares using hardware mods if Sony manage to sufficiently protect it on the software level.
That's where new hardware revisions would come into view, they would be there to prevent hardware mods that circumvent current system protection.
>>
>>322311860
You'd already know why if you understood the process but here's a video that might give some insight. https://youtu.be/hZRz0xikaAU?t=2267
>>
>>322310963
You're making just as much of a retard of yourself too. Nothing you've said up to this point makes you sound knowledgeable at all. You're just arguing at the same retarded level as the other guy.
>>
>>322314172
With the recent gen x86 APUs Sony is using I'd honestly be surprised if they weren't using a TPM type thing at the actual core SoC level as their trust foundation. If that's the case then no hardware mod would be possible, that's the whole point of it. It's not like it's new tech either, back when the PS3 was made over a decade ago and Sony was rolling their own shitty chip attempt it was a different story but everyone has been through this shit at this point.

As far as forcing upgrades goes that can usually be handled pretty well in this day and age simply by setting up the system so that new games & patches require the system updates (and of course same for online). So even if someone gets a root exploit to the current version, they're stuck with current stuff unless they choose to give it up. At the end of a gen maybe that's worthwhile, there's a huge library anyway and everyone is moving on to the next thing. But at this point? Next year looks like the big one for the PS4, doubt anyone would really want to give up on that.
>>
the barrier to entry for console hacking and the amount of effort and knowledge required virtually stops piracy in its tracks even after an exploit is found

see the ps3 after it got ''hacked''

console piracy will NEVER be a thing as long as it takes more effort than clicking ''download'' on piratebay like the PCucks do

pirating games on PSP was piss easy, is it really that much harder on the PS3? I thought you could just drop an ISO onto the hard drive once you had custom firmware, maybe load a workaround plugin if the game needs newer official firmware, and play?
