How is Jeff so based?

Jeff Gerstmann is a cuck (sadly).

Ever since his best friend died, you know.
>>
>>322297687
Will Jeff ever fully recover?

He seems way more jaded since Ryan's death and I don't like it.

GB contracted cancer with the move to CBSi, and it died with Ryan.

After not listening to the podcast all year, I tried to listen to the GOTY stuff because it's usually a good, entertaining clusterfuck.

I probably made it a half hour into day 1 with fat austin singing the praises of fucking Cibele (WHO?!?) and Her Story while Alex "sperglord" Navarro echoing him in his nasally bitch voice and trying so fucking hard to be funny.

I can't even stomach it. I feel second hand embarrassment for Jeff and Vinny at what their baby has become.

Jeff has said many times he would have no problem bailing on GB if it turned into something he wasn't feeling anymore and I think he's probably getting there. He seems more disengaged than ever.
>>
>>322298468
He already was going to bail on GB prior to the death of Ryan. They were going to start a roadshow or something, iirc.

After his death, I think Jeff just lost all his passion and went on halfheartedly.
>>
>Brad makes valid points about Mario Maker's faults
>Jeff does his best impression of Brad from four years ago going "NUH UH IT'S FINE UR WRONG" and filibusters MM into #1

Why is Jeff such a faggot?
>>
>>322298468
>I feel second hand embarrassment for Jeff and Vinny

This is what makes modern GB horrible for me.

Beastcast is Vinny and Bakalar trying so hard to make Alex a palatable human being to listen to. They both bring the bants and Alex is just a fun vacuum and Austin just mumbles 10 letter words and tries not to get triggered.

Bakalar would be a great hire and would make GB great again IMO, guy is a pro.

On the west coast the bombcast is just a bored jeff shitting out 1 liners, brad trying to sound smart, and dan ryckert going "hey guys have i ever told you this story" and "DUDE TACO BELL LMAO".

I moved on to sleepycast.
>>
>>322295564
Who and who?
>>
>>322299349
Bakalar makes more money at CNET cranking out clickbait articles and podcasts than anyone at GB including Jeff.

They couldn't afford his services.
>>
>>322298468

Jeff really needs to shave jesus fuck
>>
>>322299349
If we're on that subject, I think any of the GameTrailers people would fit in GB. Well, maybe not "any" of them.

I mean, I would have no issue if Alex and Austin were replaced by Michael Huber and Kyle Bosman.

Then again, that could apply to just about ANY person.

This is the only game podcast I can listen to.
Even podcasts not about gaming will bring up shit like Fallout being a big deal, and they won't even defend it. They won't point out what makes it good to them, just say "It's just so good".

If you're going to have a podcast, why not make your own opinion or say something worth hearing? Regurgitating facebook opinions isn't content.

It's falling about, though. Stamper fucked off because he obviously hates the repetitiveness and fakeness of the podcast, everyone's working separately now, and Zach moved to NYC for some mystery project.

It's because his main competition is always Brad and Brad is the fucking worst during GOTY.

I dunno, I feel like East is bringing back a hint of the magic. Austin's annoying but he's nowhere near Klepek tier insufferable, and Navarro's not THAT bad - not funny, but not particularly offensive. Meanwhile Dan's schtick was fun for a month then got incredibly annoying, Jeff is appearing in less and less content, Drew is based as always, and Brad's pretty much a grey blob at this point - no personality whatsoever.

>>

No it's actually a bunch of nobodies from newgrounds and shadman (who's a pseudo intellectual edgelord and the most annoying person who's ever lived shocking nobody) that fell apart after Stamper left.

JonTron was on one of the podcasts and he's funnier than any of them
>>
Jeff is also completely correct about Super Mario Maker, and Brad is absolutely hating on the game over one of the least important things ever.

Nintendo is building the NX, they've acknowledged the Wii U's social features are not good. If Nintendo had done exactly what Brad desired, he would have shit on the game for doing exactly that.
>>
>>322302706
After listening to the GOTY podcast, I'm pretty sure we'll be getting more Mario Maker streams out of West over the next year, and those are always a good time.

As for East, I actually like Austin a lot. Political shit doesn't come up that often, and he's such a likable dude that it doesn't bother me if he says something I don't like. All the criticisms of Alex are right. His depression schtick rarely lands, and usually just comes off as needy, but I sympathize with him. He signed up to be a games writer, not to be a podcast or video personality. He kind of fell into his position, and it's pretty clear that he's doing the best he can.
>>
>>322303081
While I don't regularly agree with his tastes, I do like his policy of not using the word "interesting". I'd say "you could set a drinking game to how many times Patrick said 'interesting' on podcasts," but I don't want to be responsible for your death.

Bradd might seriously be the worst individual in the entire review industry. Every regurgitated shit opinion of his sounds like it came straight from an IGN article.

He is the main reason why I stopped watching giantbomb west. Giantbomb east can be pretty entertaining though with Vinny carrying the team on his back.
>>
>>322301264
I can't believe Austin actually tried to make a car analogy.

I liked Fallout 4 and Jeff is right about everything here.
>>
So, here's a question. During the MGSV vs Mario Maker argument, why didn't anyone bring up the fact that even the good Mario levels aren't that fun to play?

I'm fine with it as their GOTY because Jeff likes it more than any game that's come out in the past decade, and I like Jeff, but god damn, I do not see what he sees in that thing.
>>
>>322303684
Vinny is cool, but he invokes fallacies too often, when discussing fucking subjective things.
>>
>>322303684
Well I mean shit, nobody goes to Giant Bomb for reviews, and that's literally all he's contributing - and that's rare. It's not like hosting the podcast takes more than an hour of his time outside of recording it. I mean, sure Jeff's falling out of content too but at least we know he's running shit, Brad's just a lazy fuck. He's Rorie tier life regret at this point.

Jeff can post a code on twitter and hundreds and hundreds of people will play it, stream it, and give him feedback.

It's a totally different experience than some regular goy playing it. They know this, and have even talked about it.

Austin and Brad are morons for thinking Bethesda can't improve because game development is sooooooo hard.

Fallout 4 actually doesn't have that much content

Why is jeff still a wigger deep inside? His video in the Day 2 GOTY video had a ghetto christmas song.
>>
>>322309151
Because that's who he is. At least he's self aware.
>>
>>322309356
do you think it started as a rebellion from hearing all that dadrock in his father's garage? I love rap too, but dude got sucked in hard.

How is it supposed to make sense that FO4 can't be made better? There are much larger games, especially MMOs.
>>
>>322309552
MMOs are relatively static worlds. Bethesda games have a lot of moving parts. You can pick up all the plates and food off of a table and put them in some stranger's house.

I'm not saying it justifies the buggy nature of all those games, but that's not a good comparison.

>>322301202
The best part about GBs staff is that they all have great chemistry with everybody

He seemed to have always liked rap until NWA popped up and took over his mind.
>>
>>322309552
No you don't understand, it's literally impossible to make Bethesda's clockwork universe of npc's better. Just impossible.

You could argue that if the same problems happen in every single game that maybe it's Bethesda's developers that need to step up but that would inevitably hurt someones feelings so that can't be true.
>>
>>322309731
Bethesda's biggest problem is their engine.
They're using a modified version of a modified version of a modified version of a 10+ year old engine.
They need something that's actually brand new to get rid of most of their awful problems.

Like what? Aren't basic areas pretty static and if affected, then wholly updated?

NPCs roaming? Load them in if the player comes close doing what they've switched over to whatever status quo from gameplay. It's simple read and write.
>>
>>322310075
That reads funny

>Load them in, if the player comes close, doing what they've been set to do through gameplay
*
>>
>>322310075
Well I was joking. Any dev with decent coders (none of these fucking western devs that replace their code monkeys for every new game to save cash) could probably do as good as Bethesda does.
>>
>>322310327
Obsidian's coders are probably even worse than Bethesda's and they were still stuck with Gaymbryo so they don't count.
>>
>>322310327
Like honestly though, dumping a file if the player gets KO'd? If it's not from a damage source, figure out what the fuck is happening?
>>

That was the most annoying part, Brad was so completely convinced that it would ruin the FREEDOM of a game that is so fucked up that any sense of immersion is ruined the second you step out of the vault.

At least Jeff was saying he knew dick all about game design, Brad was just making these insane statement with absolutely no proof.
>>
>>322310630
Gamebryo isn't the issue though, many games released on old versions or new versions still run amazingly well, Civilization for example though a lot of that is straight up XML files. Bethesda's technical incompetence is the issue.

From what I hear is they keep modifying an old version rather than using a new version as a baseline. Probably due to the fact they know they don't have to, to sell 12m+ games.
>>
>>322310805

Was it Drew that brought up Xenoblade?

Someone did and they got shut down pretty quickly with BUT MOVING PARTS
>>
The guest lists continue to be a whole lot of non-game trash.
Where do they find all these media people and why are half of them trannies?
>>
>>322310918
I don't understand how Skyrim could run on shitty comps, but FO4, not looking any more impressive, cannot.
>>
>>322311464
>and why are half of them trannies

Because women don't care about games and they need to look like they're not gender biased
>>
>>322311340
Vinny brought up Xeno X but like they said it doesn't have that many moving parts besides Indigen sleeping and hunting patterns depending on what time of day it is.
>>
I thought the fact that one of the reasons they kept Ori off the list was because it was "too hard." was insane. The game had difficulty spikes, but to pretend that it was too hard is a negative in those terms is crazy. Also, even if you thought Witcher 3 wasn't good, them saying that nobody finished it and that was the games fault is unbelievable.
>>
>>322311559

I don't feel like trying to think of a good metaphor but I'm reminded of the the bent fork showing that being unique isn't necessarily a good thing

>underestimating how awful skyrim vanilla's graphics are
>>
>>322311817
Under the art, though, Ori is just another 2D platformer, there's nothing setting it apart except for its looks.
>>
>>322311817
Poor controls and shit inventory is good reason to stop playing a game.
>>
I have a feeling if Super Mario Maker ran into half the issues that FO4 ran into technically, Jeff would have trashed Nintendo as fucking dead, and joined with Brad and started to stream himself playing DOTA.

Fucking Jeff has been depressed and half-hearted since Ryan. This has reminded him why he continues to suffer with the trash he does, for games like SMM.
>>
>>322311995
I disagree with that, but what I'm saying is that saying that that game was "too hard" made me realize even more that they aren't good at video games. I mean, Brad in every quick look is terrible, but they rest of them are bad as well apparently.
>>
Brad's bitching is akin to the straw facing the wrong way when brought a glass of lemonade and rather than bitching out the waiter, he cuts his wrist.

Please stop saying this shit. Jeff can't make a fucking negative reaction without everyone shouting "OHHHHHH RYAN IS DEAD YOU'RE SO SAAAAD!" The dude is doing fine. He's being healther and is getting married this year.

>Grow Home in the top 10 but not Bloodborne

I know it's completely subjective but what the actual fuck. That game is literally 2 hours long and has one fucking mechanic.
>>
>>322315120
Yeah, but also nothing about it is disappointing.

It wouldn't have made my list, but they all had shit to bitch about in Bloodbourne.
>>
>>322314725
>>322314514
he's not bad when he's not trying to be "deep" or "progressive", like when he talks about gunpla and anime. You can tell he's really at a crossroads with SJW's and his love for animes that feature female exploitation, and maybe one day he'll wise up.
>>
>>322315262
> they all had shit to bitch about in Bloodbourne.

and yet, The Witcher 3 made the list, which they bitched about WAY more.

>Invisible Inc. made the list literally on the back of one argument even though nobody on staff played it for any significant period of time except for Austin

Invisible Inc. isn't even a bad game, but how did that sneak on? Nobody except Vinny, Austin, and Dan even played it, Vinny was lukewarm, and Dan straight up didn't care for it. Was Austin threatening to walk if they didn't put it on the list?
>>
All that shit about Invisible Inc. really triggered me for some reason, why in the fuck is it in the top 10 if literally only one person played it at all.
>>
>>322301264

The younger guy sounds fucking obnoxious, the deep voice guy is complete dudebro I play and finish games in 10 hours. Are these guys meant to represent a generic player or avid 100% completer?
