Is this game worth buying?
>>
>>322291320
If you aren't new to the franchise
>>
Serious question here.

Everyone keep shitting on it on /v/ but from what I've seen it looks fun.

Even as a 1 play through only kinda game.
>>
>>322291320
It's not even worth pirating.

Maybe, MAYBE, if it gets repacked into a 500mb pirate repack in 2 years with all the DLC, I might consider pirating it.
>>
>>322291320
Honestly no.
>>
I got it for Christmas played it for 4 days straight but I made the mistake of finishing one factions quest lines early which made the rest of the game less interesting. It's fun just pace yourself and explore side quests and if you are going to get it you better do it now while it's $40
>>
>>322291320
No. It's mediocre-to-bad in just about every respect.
>>
>>322291656
I can imagine it getting some major patching when the DLC is released.

I feel that if it does, and if the DLC is good, then it'd probably be a really good game.
Especially once the modding scene on it becomes bigger.

No. Just pirate it, play through it once, then never touch it again.

>>322291568
If it were a non-RPG action game about exploring a post-apocalyptic enviroment, not affiliated with Fallout, then it'd be okay.
As a Fallout game and/or an RPG it's utter dog-shit.

Bethesda learned absolutely nothing since Fallout 3 and they repeated nearly all the mistakes, while creating completely new ones in the process.

Games should not be disposable...

The thing is, once you've seen every location the game has 0 replayability. You can't even make different character builds since stat-points have been removed and perks have arbitrary level requirements.
Every character-progression is almost identical, since you have to spend 10+ levels between upgrades putting points into useless perks you don't want.
>>
>>322292147
Then don't bother with Fallout 4. It's a really shit game that, as others in this thread have already said, is barely even worth pirating, let alone fucking paying for.
>>
>>322292582
Is that for reasons of "Bugthesda Don'tworks" or actual failings as a competent video game?
>>
>>322291320
I thought it was alright, until I got to the surrounding area near diamond city. It turns into a shooting gallery every ten feet
>>
>>322292678
It's actually Bethesda's least buggy game so far (although still buggy). The game just isn't good, being somewhat bug-free doesn't change that.
>>
>>322292678
Failings as a competent game. It's mechanically shallow in every respect, insultingly easy, poorly written, and very repetitive. It's honestly more casualized than Skyrim.

Both. It's buggy as shit for once. On my first playthrough I had to use setStage for quests several times because NPCs bugged out or some triggers simply wouldn't load. I couldn't end the main quest, because Elder Maxson simply refused to talk to me.

I will never understand how someone could be mad enough to buy the game on consoles where you cannot even try to fix this stuff.

Besides the obvious bugs, many things were very poorly implemented. Base-building is a complete crapshoot since you cannot make fences properly close (unless you go into console and noclip), placing is all sorts of fucked up, many wall-pieces have no corresponding corner-pieces, it's not possible to make corners when placing walls, and so on and so on...

Then there's the awful writing and world-design. Once again everything looks as if it's only been a few years since the bombs fell, because Bethesda wants to force the "post-apocalypticy" look at all costs, even making it impossible for you to build new structures from raw materials. Every building and wall in your settlement looks like a decaying shanty-town because 'muh nuclear wasteland'.

Here's a very good video analysis where someone picked the whole thing apart, especially the godawful main story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A34poZ6paGs

Shitty linear dialougue

Most choices turn out extremely similar and all lead you down the same path

Less RPG elements

And worst of all you cant holster your fucking weapon anymore
>>
>>322294150
You can holster it, it just doesn't appear on your character. Which is so fucking unbelievably lazy I can't believe reviewers didn't give Beth flack for that.
>>
It's the sequel to Fallout 3, and it shows.
It's enjoyable on the surface, but has no depth.

If that doesn't bother you, go ahead. It's mindless entertainment, but there's no shame in enjoying that from time to time.
>>
No, and I say that as someone who enjoyed Skyrim. It has no replayability whatsoever. Quests are all MMO tier. There feels like there are 7 different guns and 3 different enemies in the entire game. Voice acting and dialogue are still Bethesda bad.

Also the level up system isn't any fun at all since skills are gone and most of the perks you will choose are mandatory shit like lockpicking and crafting unlocks.

>>

Maybe not mandatory but you're cutting out a lot of content if you don't get it. You're certainly going to choose it over 'take less radiation from food' or 'gain 2 perception at night'.
>>
>>322295269
what about gun nut?
>>
>>322294432
That's what I meant. You can "holster" it, but it just dissapears into thin air.

It's so fucking lazy. Oblivion, skyrim, and fo3 all had the weapons go onto your characters back or hip

It's really hard to get immersed when your character is running around a dangerous wasteland UNARMED
>>
>>322295269
Not really. Most of the stuff locked behind the harder to open safes is crap like ammo. No real sense of finding good loot aside maybe legendaries.
>>
>>322295097
I beat the game without having any lockpicking or hacking perks. Just choose your companion wisely who can best benefit you while you go through the game.
>>
>>322293536
The only thing I really liked about the world design was that buildings felt so open.

Everything wasn't just a single corridor.

just play it and explore, beat the game and put it away. because as it is its "alright" the DLC and KIT will be coming out this year making the game better in every way.
i've put 260 hours into it and now waiting for DLC and mods.
>>
>>322291320
No, it tries to copy Borderlands, Far Cry, and Mass Effect but even more half assed. The writing is godawful and the quests are some of the laziest shit ever. Pretty much all your interactions consists going to shitty linear dungeons to shoot people.
>>
fucking SKYRIM is a better RPG than this.
Hell, it's a better fucking game with more content, not even talking about mods which pretty much SAVED skyrim

Fallout 4 is utterly shit, play new vegas.
>>
>>322295430
That's part of the mandatory perk problem. You wouldn't not choose that unless you were going melee, but then there is a corresponding perk for that too.
>>
>>322291568
It's fun but it's an aRPG. Don't expect NV.

I got like 40-50 good hours of entertainment just from exploring the wasteland.

But I feel awful that I gave Bethesda money for it. Makes me feel like I rewarded them for how incredibly lazy they've gotten.
Def. not going to pay full price for any DLC or Bethesda's next game.

Also, I found Nic Cage.

So what I;m getting is that the only redeemable thing about this game is the exploration(to an extent), and that I should wait for patches and DLC?

Also, NV>all?
>>

no you should wait for (free) mods. People are doing what they can but until the SDK gets released a lot of the broken core mechanics will remain.

I played NV. 20 hours in Fo4 so far.

I honestly feel like both have some serious strengths to them as games, but the experiences of both are not equivalent. The feel and purpose of both are miles apart. If I had to reduce both games down to overall quality, I would say both games bring some massive improvements to the series as a whole. Fo4 does some things very well that even NV skipped town on, but it does ditch the improvements NV made. Probably because Bethesda is too proud to consider making the work of another dev part of their main line.

Still great on it's own.

I'm Ignoring factors like bugs and poor optimization. Which will come with patches and DLC. Under normal circumstances I would not allow it, but literally every game Bethesda is even vaguely associated with works that way. NV wasn't really a complete game till all the patches and DLC either, and it wasn't even made by Bethesda. If you don't like it, go buy games from developers who give even half a shit.
>>
Worth pirating, don't buy. Save money for other things like new hardware or actually decent games.

I've spent a pretty good amount of time playing the game with mixed feelings during the way.

The game starts so slow as you are forced to use pipe weapons which are boring as fuck and so goddamn slow that it isn't even funny. Then after 10 hours of playing you realize that every fucking weapon in the game that you find is a variation of a pipe gun. Sometimes you'll run into a laser gun or a shotgun or a short combat rifle but the guns are ridiculously bland. To make up for not having guns, you mod the base gun with a bunch of mods that will be obsolete once you do another main quest and find a better modded gun.

Then there are settlements which I didn't even poke with a stick. You put some plants and water things and two turrets in a town and congrats you have a happy settlement. You know what I want? You keep a settlement alive by providing security, food source, and water, and they clean and build the town. I don't want to come back after twenty hours to a happy settlement and see it still looks like a pile of shit despite all the settlers always hammering away at houses. Have it work like your Lucky 38 suite in New Vegas. You have the junk needed for the town and you tell them what to build and they do it. This isn't Minecraft, handle the shit yourselves I have exploring to do. Why the fuck did they even think carrying 500 pounds of junk from settlement to settlement is even fun?

The story is barely a step above Fallout 3 because you can join the designated bad guys but otherwise it steals feels very stupid and empty. The world is boring to explore because while you can go into many buildings, you'll find that you go through the whole thing for armor and pipe weapons that are meaningless. There are very few special weapons and armor. I was taught by the game to ignore any buildings that are not a quest.
>>
>>322313461
Cont.

50 quests are given by the same couple of people in a town unlike a game like New Vegas where a random settler in any town could end up giving you a questline or two to follow. There are less clones in Fallout 4 but they are still boring and bland and unimportant.

The gunplay is a lot more satisfying. The voice acting, the story, and the upgrades make the game feel extremely linear so I have no desire to replay the game after I get through everything possible in my playthrough.

Overall it is better than Fallout 3 but really could have learned a lot from New Vegas.
