Haven't paid attention to /v/ for awhile. What do you guys think of the steam controller, is it shit or what?
>>
>>322275998
Definitely not shit. It's not a basic plug and play controller, it needs tweaking for each game, but once it's configured, it's above and beyond anything a standard gamepad can achieve.

For that reason, it's fantastic with emulators.

I've had mine since late November, it's pretty damn cool. I don't think I've done even half of what I can do with it, but it feels good and has some very cool functionality.
>>
>>322276734
That left hand doesn't look human anyway
>>
It's good as long as you keep in mind that it's not supposed to replace the existing gamepads. It's a crossbreed, with particular advantages and disadvantages.

The trackpad is quite awful for precise 2D games like platforming imo. For 3D games I find it fine but definitely takes time to get used to it.

I bought one from GAMESTOP with a steam link. Glad I bought it from there too. The Steamlink worked well, so I kept it and use other controllers, depending on the game. But the Steam controller, I gave it a week, and just hated it. Shooters, mouse is still preferable. Platformers, it has a shit dpad. 3D action games, it's worthless since it has small buttons. Racing, that trackpad is not worthwhile. Most VNs don't support it, which is a shame since it would be a decent game for it. City builders still need a keyboard. I have no clue what they were thinking.

>>322279671
You can add non-steam games to your Steam Library. You've been able to do that for years.
>>
>>322277924
did you ever used one?
i didn't buy one because i don't know if i'll like the trackpads or not, but i won't say the controller is shit, i didn't test it
>>
>>322279789
a game just needs to use the overlay then?

Add emulator as a non-steam game.

I thought it was pretty good, but then I realised I wouldn't actually use it in favour of a traditional controller, so I guess yeah it's shit.

how is it for emulation? My 360 controllers don't cut it and I tried out a XBone controller and I didn't think the D pad was good enough to justify the $50 price point.

It's god-damn amazing for all those games that don't really work that well with a conventional controller.

I played some Morrowind today and it was an incredibly pleasant experience. MW has always been finnicky to set up for playing on the couch, but the Steam Controller just shrugs it off.

I set sprint/jump on the left trigger and the gyrosensor for mouse movement when the pad is held. The rest of the actions are thrown wherever I found most appropriate.

Playing that game is so obscenely comfortable now.

It just not very good for games that rely on the d-pad.

If you need a d-pad then look elsewhere.

Your options are using the stick or the trackpad. Good luck playing platformers with that

If they support simultaneous mouse input, then you're going to have a blast.

Pure controller-only games that have no concept of m+kb generally fare a bit worse than the 360 (or whatever else "conventional" gamepad you have).

Analog stick emulation is just not the same as using a proper stick and the analog mouse mode only works sufficiently well if the game allows cranking up the sensivity to insane levels (Steam should really provide a custom setting here)

I have not tried Wii emulation yet. I think there might be interesting possibilities using the pads and gyro sensors, but I don't want to make any promises
