I want this more often in games. I'm tired of weak enemies mindlessly fighting to the death. They aren't brave, they aren't even stupid, just mindless NPC's programmed attack you.
I was playing Fallout 4 and there are scavengers (weakest enemies in the entire game) who are hostile toward you, but will flee when you get them low on health. They'll run and occasionally just shoot at you once or twice if you just follow them. I really wish that Bethesda had created a way to calm them down to not be aggro anymore. I really hate that Bethesda went and removed "KO" status from the game. In previous titles you could wear boxing gloves to knockout an enemy instead of killing them, but the boxing gloves in Fo4 kill people.
