I wanted a new Star Fox game in the same vein as 64, but I didn't want Miyamoto to rehash the original game while recycling ideas from Star Fox 2 and I certainly didn't want him to throw out the entire story because some people didn't get on with Krystal (as shit as she was).
This means that the two Star Fox games made by Nintendo themselves have both been mere reboots of the SNES game.

Granted, I was never a huge 64 fan, and only finished it once. But the only chance I see this being enjoyable is if it has some balls to the wall difficulty.

Reviewers tear to shreds whatever doesn't make them money.
Then they turn around and praise other games for the exact same flaws.

Which is a really silly thing to do since the length is really no good indicator of how long the game will actually last.
It thrives on width and not length for starters. Star Fox 64 is worth more than 45 minutes even if that's how long it takes to complete a playthrough. It's not 45 minutes for everything. It's approximately 45 to reach the end.
And then you play through the game at least three times to play all the different missions.
And after having played all the missions you play through the game additional times to unlock and play through the secret missions.
And after having done so you play through the game even more to master what you have learned.
Giving you many, many more hours to enjoy everything. It's how games like this are designed. And supposedly, a playthrough of Star Fox Zero will be approximately twice the length of Star Fox 64.
The game isn't done just because you completed a playthrough once.
