I find MGS1 the most aesthetically pleasing game in the Solid series. Adding more polygons or increasing audio bitrate doesn't do much by itself.

I actually feel this way about a lot of horror games. They were more frightening with shittier sounds and fucking weird looking areas. Tons of games that weren't even supposed to be horror managed to have horror moments because of "bad graphics".

Camera and controls are the main issue though. It's really infuriating to play it when the camera is top down and you can barely see anything in front of you. Plus the really low frame rate is annoying. Plus PS1 wobbling.

It has a really nice art style and great designs.
By far the best version of Snake. Hate how they redesigned him for MGS2. He got shorter, stalkier, got a beard, a mullet and more muscles.

Yeah, MG1, 2 and MGS have the same feel, art style and music style. MGS built upon the music style of the previous games. It's by far the best MG score out there.
The scores for 2-5 are pretty forgettable hollywood stuff.
