If I play it during my PS2 days I would fucking love all of the exploring you can do.
Sadly I play it late personally and know there is nothing around beside the colossus and stuff like fruit and lizards. Once you complete the game you are done.
It is the type of game best to play when you were a kid. As an adult it is honestly boring as shit. You might enjoy it, don't get me wrong but not nearly as much as you would as a kid.

I hated it. The controls are shit by design (lol horses are supposed to hard as fuck to steer!), most of the game is completely empty (unless you want to hunt hard-as-fuck-to-see lizards & eat fruit for more health/stamina - yaaay...), and several of the Colossus fights are 100% shit.
Now, some fights are worth the price of admission - if you enjoyed the Titan fights in Lords of Shadow you have an idea of what you're in for - just with less Quick-Time-Events.
But overall I'll never play it again. Do yourself a favor & download a gamesave that has 100% the game so you can New Game+ it with a bunch of extra weapons & shit that makes the game more fun to play.

It's pretty much a boss rush with some exploration in between. Slaying the colossi leaves you with a bittersweet feeling because they're just creatures of a barren land not causing any harmeven though they are fractions of an evil entity.

As a game developer SotC is the closest thing gaming has to a work of art since it mix both gameplay and story in different ways, also it has huge advancement in the technologies used, specially for a PS2 game. Is it a good game? Maybe. I do think it is a great experience though. Its that transcendent quality that gives it hype, but if you are into games for the mechanics, its just ok.
