DI is a subset of stick control which is probably the thing that gives melee such a high skill ceiling since it's digital. The toppest level players still mess up wavedash angles or shield drop flick speeds or dash timings.

The AI is vastly better. Level 9 outright cheats; don't plan on beating it your first week.
Rolls/dodges are really good and arguably broken online. Expect to fight a lot of rollspammers if you step into the sinkhole call For Glory.
At the casual level, the whole cast is fairly balanced. Use who you like. At the competitive level swordsmen are garbage, except for Cloud and Ike.

Smash 4 peaked at about 90k Twitch viewers, which I think made it the most watched game that Saturday.
Melee got about 160k more or less, and was the most watched game of the tourney besides USFIV, which peaked at about 200k.
I like Smash because I can play as iconic characters beating the shit out of other iconic characters. I really don't care if it's a real fighting game or not.
