People like to say that about DmC, but it's tbqfh outclassed by it's predecessors, and majorly blow the fuck out by bayonetta.
I said that it would have done better if they kept the DMC gameplay, and made original characters. Then i realized Bayo had already done it, and done it better.
The only thing that DmC did right was the boss design on the news guy. Mundus was lame as fuck, and Vergin's fight wishes it was as good as DMC3.

There's nothing wrong with that statement. If a new entry in an established franchise really changes it's core too much to where it starts to not feel exactly the same, but it's still a good game regardless, it works to explain it.

There has been as many Bethesda Styled Fallout games and non-Bethesda styled games making Bethesda fallout the new standard of which fallout games should be judged.
So basically Fallout 2 is a good Black Isle Studio game, just not a good Fallout game.
It's a valid criticism against games but it's used waaaay too often to basically dismantle a developer's attempt to change the formula.

I hate that folks said this about Max Payne 3. It was a great game and the story was fine if not a bit melodramatic. Max had to move on, he couldn't just keep pouring bullets into NJ/NY mobsters. Gameplay, graphics, and music were all great. The gunplay was awesome and I loved no more magic pockets (emptying two uzis and rolling to pick up a shotgun and keep going feels so meaty) Plus dat beach ending

Agreed. Brazil was a nice escape for Max. Hot women, strong drinks, good views. From ghetto favelas (providing plenty of thugs to kill) to fancy clubs and upper class hotels/boats, it was a great playground for gunplay. They even had throwbacks to NY just for 1+2 purists.

In fairness, the worst parts of the game are; final boss, a few silly lines that were supposed to be serious (human glue) and some long loading sequences you have to watch several times (especially if you're doing challenges)

There are 2 bethesda developed mainline games, 1 black isles, 1 obsidian and 1 interplay. Meaning that Bethesda is the standard because there are more.
If you want to look at it of the style of game, I would say New Vegas and 4 are just continuations of the style 3 set, and 2 is following the style set by 1, so by that logic there is 3 Fallout 3 style games and 2 Fallout 1 style games, making Fallout 3 the standard by which all fallout games should be judged by. Meaning that Fallout 1 and 2 are good games, just not good Fallout games.

I disagree; I believe that style has nothing to do with it. I believe that in my case the judgment is based on developers; Obsidian is essentially the successor/continuation of Black Isle making New Vegas not a Bethesda game at all. Despite having a modified engine, their are a number of gameplay changes, a fantastically better story, and overall better dialogue; A hallmark for Black Isle games, not Bethesda.
Meaning, I feel that Fallout 4 is a good by my expectations for Bethesda (which are low) for other reasons but when compared to the overall series is a series more "one step forward two steps back"
But that's just the way I judge them. I feel New Vegas was truly a Black Isle game.
