This is 80% off on Steam right now, /v/. What's the verdict, is it good or shit?
>>
One of the 2 good games to come out last year
>>
>>322126492

It's a pretty decent shooter. lots of cool weapons with interesting secondary modes and upgrades.

Also a decent story. Totally worth it 80% off.
>>
Should also mention, I hope you have a lot of free space on your HDD/SDD
>>
Cool game, you'll play it at least twice, has a lengthy campaign.
Only flaw is that it uses a dogshit engine that, fortunately, will not be used ever again.
>>
one of the only good FPS games of the last few years
>>
>>322126492
It's fun as hell and has characters you actually care about, which is a wonderful surprise. It was probably my favorite game last year.
>>
Fun but with major flaws, especially on amd systems
>>
>>322126492

It's a mediocre shooter that does nothing that hasn't been done better by shooters from <2006

It's kinda better than CoD, so if you started playing vidya recently you might like it
>>
It's a fun shooter.
>>
>>322126568
What was the other one
>>
>>322128326
Transistor
>>
>>322126492

It's an FPS. A good FPS but still an FPS. I got bored of it around 3/4 in. Haven't really had any motivation to finish it. Not really interesting or anything. It's very repetitive and has way too many slow gameplay sections.

POLISH JEW FANTASY
>>
Can't decide between Wolfenstein or Black Mesa. I'm a HL fag and interested to try out the multiplayer but Wolfenstein didn't have any good torrents last I checked.
>>
>>322126492
It's fun. Not the greatest, but it's better than most recent FPS.

Hopefully the fun carries over to DOOM.
>>
>>322128326

I've got some bad news for you anon.
>>
>>322132132
b-but its just an alpha
>>
>>322126492
It's pretty decent. Gets overrated because it came out in a year with pretty much no good games.

Definitely worth it for 80% off.
>>
>>322126492
Get it, its fun.
>>
It's alright. I wish there was more shit on the moon and the ending was eh. Also make sure you do the Wyatt timeline for best side character
>>
runs like shit. bad console port

gunplay is fun, decent story and good replayability

great linear single player FPS and those are pretty rare these days

Good shooter, my only problem with it is how it runs like shit on my AMD.

It's a good game but it's fucking infuriating how much worse modern games are running on high-end systems these days

>want to get into the series
>finish Return to Castle Wolfenstein last week
>game runs flawlessly at 144FPS, no issues
>cutscenes are all in-engine and run at above framerate
>start this up with overclocked i5 2500k and Sapphire Tri-X R9 290x
>random framerate drops whenever there's dynamic lights
>shitty cutscenes locked to 30FPS that stutter and fall to even 0FPS at times
>gameplay locked to 60FPS
>if you take the cap off the game speeds up/audio cuts off when characters speak
>mfw
>>
>>322134464
It's literally because of
>muh megatextures
The game eats up RAM like mad.
8GB nowadays are not enough, games like Black Ops 3, Arkham Knight or AC Unity run like shit simply because they need more RAM.
Seriously, get 16GB and you'll save yourself a lot of headaches.
It's shit, yes, but it's not like devs are going to change the way they work in this industry right now.
>>
It's 6/10 at best.
>>
>>322134669
I'll probably buy another 8GB of RAM next week since it's cheap enough, already dropped dosh on another SSD I found cheap during an Amazon lightning deal along with a new case and Noctua fans/cooler
>>
>>322130958
They're not doing MOOM
>>
>>322134464
Fuck, I ran it on my i7-4790k, 980ti, and 16GB of RAM on 1440p.

Game STILL runs like shit and has a weird issue for me where the Vertical Sync does not work correctly.

I think the Rage engine was all around just a dud, which is a shame since I liked the Doom 3 engine despite it not being able to handle outside environments too great. Makes me worried that Doom 4 is also going to run like shit.
>>
>>322126492
Closer to being worth $60 than basically every other full priced shooter to come out in years. Totally worth it at the current price. The only advice I have to give is to play it on Uber if you've played a real FPS before since it's not much of a challenge on any of the other modes.
>>
Was I the only one getting insane screen tearing even with vsync on and generally eye-straining feel?

Finished it on a R9 390 and the whole time it was like poking my eyes out.
>>
>>322134956
The new Doom honestly looks like a Halo clone/is being released to consoles so you can save yourself the trouble.
>>
>>322134464
ran at max at 1080p on my 970 and had well above 60fps maintained
>>
>>322134956
Yeah, vsync is fucked. You get 60fps only if your fps is >=60, 30fps otherwise.
>>
It's good but way too long. And final boss battle is somewhat disappointing. Also
>idtech 5
>>
I feel like i'm the only person without performance issues in this game
>>
>this fucking engine
>create the megatextures meme so that games could be ported over to iPhone

I don't regret buying it. The action doesn't do anything too revolutionary, but it's a solid game, and the writing's above average.

On the 4th and higher difficulties its pretty damn hard too.
>>
I thought it was pretty boring. Enemy reactions to being shot were great though. I'm glad they're dropping Megatextures for idtech6 since apparently you can't have decent dynamic lighting using it even if it in general is a good idea. Wolfenstein's lighting and shadows reminded me a lot of HL2 and that's not a good thing.

>>322136063
That's because the engine is designed to drop the resolution when things are happening. The max resolution Rage ran at on the PS360 was 1280x720 and if anything would have made the framerate drop it drops the resolution instead.

Why are people still surprised that games are so large? Part of it is because of the megatextures. They take up a lot of space.

I get if a game is like 20 GB nowadays, but 44GB? Compress your fucking textures, I don't give a shit.
>>
>>322126492
How do gmg discounts work? F4 is discounted at 17%, plus there is an additional 20% voucher, does that mean the game actually does cost only 36 or so bucks?
>>
>>322137584
true. I felt like "Normal" was too easy when under stealth, never mind the perks.

In fact I even restarted checkpoints just so I could grind for perks.
>>
>>322137991
44GB isn't even out of the ordinary today. GTAV is 62GB. Almost no games are only 20 something GB today and those that are are mostly indie-ish games like Frictional's new game. AAA games are all over 40GB. MGSV wasn't but it was made for last gen.
>>
>>322126492
If you haven't bought it yet, you're the cancer that kills vidya industry.
>>
>>322138179
>plays a modern shooter with tacked on stealth
>says someone else is the cancer killing vidya
I pirated it and didn't even finish it because it was so shitty.
>>
>>322138151
But it's only because of the devs forgoing the compression since it doesn't change a thing for them.
If the game is too big for the blu ray, they can always cram the rest of the stuff into a Day 0 patch.

Realistically, we're in a 20GB era since that is the size a lossless compression on a torrent site gets you.

>>
>>322139030
I'm not sure why they do this really. I mean the games are meant to run at 60 fps on consoles but most games don't have framerate caps. Doom is aiming for 60 fps on consoles too and while I don't really care about that game I hope the engine isn't designed for 60 fps like idtech5 was because Dishonored 2 is using a custom version of idtech6 and I don't want it locked at 60 fps.
>>
>>322139116

I just played though the starting areas over and over until I unlocked all the possible skills possible.

When I started the actual game, I had about half of the skills unlocked and was unstoppable.
>>

Because Carmack is a hack that sold out to consoles with idtech 5
>>
>>322139478
>>
>>322139694
Megatextures are honestly a good idea but there's way too many downsides that can't be gotten around at the moment for them to be used in actual games. Carmack did admit that he was kind of thinking console centric with Rage. I'm not sure if the engine itself can't have variable framerate though or if it's an issue with the game design. Carmack doesn't make the games, he just makes the engines. He didn't have much to do with idtech6 either, though we don't know if Doom will have a framerate lock. Carmack's idtech6 was going to be a voxel engine with a mix of normal lighting and ray tracing.

But yeah, if the 60 fps lock is just on a game to game basis and not built into the engine then it's not Carmack's fault even if he did kind of stray to consoles towards the end of him working for id.
>>
>>322139990
Doom's got a lock. Source: was in alpha
>>
>>322141070
That's kind of disappointing, but I think I heard vsync was forced on so maybe that's part of it. In any case since Arkane are making a custom version of idtech6 for Dishonored 2 I would hope they remove the cap. I heard they were rewriting the renderer but I don't know if something like a built in framerate lock in an engine would be limited to the renderer. I'm getting a 144Hz monitor soon and would love to eventually play Dishonored 2 at 144 fps.
