Playing this shit when it first came out was magical. Just replayed it a few weeks ago on Dolphin, and it holds up remarkably well. Still looks fantastic, too.

I think it may be the best gamecube game (toss up with Paper Mario TTYD), and despite its age, the graphics still look pretty good today. All the praise it gets is justified.
It's a game about being alone on and exploring an alien world, and it does a great job creating this feeling (the OST is amazing). I'd imagine the people who dislike it go into it thinking it'll be something different (i.e. a shooter).

I don't think prime 2 gets enough love. The first dark world segments are pretty rough, and the ammo system I think was pretty dumb, but you get the dark suit really early on, and after 1 or 2 ammo upgrades you become a lot less limited. I think the bog is where Prime 2 starts to shine.
But the best part is it creates environments that feel totally unique. Prime had lots of ruins of stone and magical technology, which fits what we know about the Chozo. Prime 2 creates ruins of steel and metal and gears. I loved the aesthetic. Sanctuary Fortress may be my favorite level in the prime games.

Prime 2 is the best by sheer virtue of having a better sense of immersion and a more logically flowing world than the rest of the series coupled with the gameplay of prime. Its only flaw is the backtracking and arguably a few boss fights
