Just got done with my new level, took more time than I should have.

Do you like

>Exploration?
>Metroidvania design?
>Challenge?
>Variety in obstacles?

Then play the sequel to my last level Ultimate Explorer here:

>Explorer 2: Key to the Ruins
https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/037B-0000-015E-DB5E
Mario, the intrepid explorer, is seeking out the ancient ruins said to hide treasure of legendary proportions . However, the entry to the ruins is sealed and he must travel the world to find the key.
The level is pretty big, it's not a technical marvel like some of the other non-linear levels (such as Deus Ex Magikoopa which gets posted pretty often) but I wanted to make it seem like you're really exploring a huge region (or, as big as you can make it seem in Mario Maker). Use powerups to unlock new paths.
Stars are great but if you leave a comment with feedback or a nice doodle I'll really appreciate it.

As a warm-up you can play the first level before. It's pretty short and was just me testing the waters with non-linear design.

I like challenge, even the ridiculous IWTBTG-tier levels. The bonerkill comes with any blind doors/pipes that can kill you, blind jumps, and enemy spam. Also not a fan of the levels where you HAVE to use a mushroom to damageboost through a section, though thats more a personal thing rather than that being an unfair obstacle, unlike the other stuff I mentioned
Puzzles are fun too, both one-screen puzzles and levels centered around puzzles.
I'm indifferent about exploration/Metroidvania/obstacle variety. As long as the level is well-made they dont matter to me.

You might like my courses. They do play kind of like Metroid. They're basically a bunch of action puzzles chained together. Only the star test in the first one has mandatory damage, and the puzzle comes from figuring out how to take only one hit. The second course is a little easier and a little longer.

Shilling these levels one last time.

https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/74EC-0000-0157-1C8D

The Goombas Revenge, an airship level with a lot of Goombas that shoot bullets and stuff and are actually threatening.

https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/FABC-0000-014E-3C95

Bowser's Dangerous Dungeon, a castle level that's hard but there's no enemy spam, just has traps in the right places.
>>
>>322103879
I really like this game, but god damn there are so many shitty levels! it's like 10 shit levels to 1 good one!

My favorite type of level is the one screen puzzle, but it's hard to find good ones.

I also like exploration levels.

Most ghost houses are good, that seems to be the theme with the least shit.

I think they might factor in the number of unique players, so a huge number of failures by one person might not impact the rating as much as a small number of failures by a bunch of people.
>>
The few people who play my levels can't seem to ever beat them. They always have ridiculously low clear rates, and I don't really know why. I guess I'll shill a few though.

Wario's Great Heist: https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/F52D-0000-014C-DF9B

Gotta Go Fast (You have 30 seconds, run like hell): https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/C782-0000-0152-25F9

I'm not trying to make them that difficult. Is it just the people playing?

I just finished another course.

Limber Lumber
https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/F0AA-0000-015F-5FA7

It's a continuation of a series I am doing in which each level is fairly straightforward to complete, but the challenges lie in exploring and challenging yourself to collect all 3 big Yoshi Eggs in each course.
For World 1, I uploaded them all at once, but going forward I'll upload one at a time, hopefully chronologically. Xenoblade is demanding a lot of my Wii U time, but I'll still come back to SMM since my levels seem positively received.

All right, here is the FINAL final version of the Inferno since people managed to get themselves stuck in wall last time: https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/CFC5-0000-015F-5EBA

There are 9 circles, 4 rivers, tons of helpless souls, demons, obstacles, etc. The difficulty starts out medium then progressively gets harder all the way to intense difficultly by the 9th circle as you move closer to Lucifer. There are elements from both the book and video game. Full platformer. Sorry I’m shilling this one a lot but I’m really proud of it. I had the idea to do this level since launch but I think it actually took me 2-3 months of construction to get this where it is now.
MAP OF THE INFERNO: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zIvE7li0EQEsM8F78VEaR6Nkkg6g5N4lZAAKZJqYbIg/edit?usp=sharing

Also here’s Space Wars: Planet Z
https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/9FA3-0000-0135-614E
It’s a lot more practical than the Inferno, and really only took me about 2-3 days make. Here you’re fighting an alien war to conquer Planet Z. There’s some sidescrolling action, lots of blooper shooting, and a boss battle at the end. You make use of the different fire clown car variations. Minimal platforming/puzzles.

I got this game for christmas and haven't had too much time on this game yet so my levels aren't super advanced at this point but here are two that I made:

There's a darkness in all of us: https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/30B6-0000-0157-F75D
It's the story of a troubled young man and his descent into psychosis. It's a 2deep4u plot with loads of symbolism and a couple of medium-difficulty jumps

I hurt myself looking for you: https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/D30A-0000-015F-75F8
This one doesn't have any enemies but the level itself is kind of the enemy. You are bound to get hurt and have to just endure it until you find that right person to help you pull through.

Please enjoy them and let me know if you find anything broken

I've uploaded a new course world, and I think it's my best so far. 4 stages with a castle in the end. The world's theme is boos and other spooky stuff. Also there's always 3 1-up mushrooms scattered around for those who want to explore more.

6-1 Boo's Spooky Neighborhood:
https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/0042-0000-014D-45B3
Instead of one ghost house, this one has multiple. Hopefully people find it both astethical pleasing AND fun to play. Uses moving and falling platforms, doors, and boos.

6-2 Dry Bones Cave:
https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/256B-0000-014D-4E4E
Dry bones theme with the skeleton platforms. Tried to mix these two elements with each other, making it similar to a certain stage in DKC1. I'm very happy with this stage.

6-3 The Haunted P-Blocks:
https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/E933-0000-014D-5DE2
This is the slow-paced P-Block stage. Nothing too complicated (although it took a while to make it all work), but it has some form of free-roaming halfway through. Please let me know if you're able to exploit the p-block system.

6-4 The Magikoopa Trio's Castle:
https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/77AB-0000-014D-6C23
There will be three distinct magikoopas that will act as minor mini-bosses for you. There is also a boss in the end.

>Make your part of the level in that section (use SMW/Airship styles)
>Post a picture of the two screens in edit mode (for the grid), you can't upload a course you've downloaded even after editing it so I'll just recreate your section by hand
Erase each of the corners with spikes (these are your framework to build within, don't be retarded about this,) and build away. When all sections are filled, I'll post the final results.

I'll throw a vineblock in at the start so that the top layer is accessible from the start. Not all sections will connect smoothly, so just be a little bit considerate with what you put at your borders; if transitioning from one section to another is too difficult or impossible, I'll make minor adjustments to make it more accessible. If you have any blocks, cannons, etc with an item in them, be sure to list the items to the corresponding object it is in.
To take a picture of the section:
>press home on wii u
>open net browser
>go to /v/
>post, select BROWSE
>pic is attached automatically

Anyone can join, and we still have 8 spots available, so just claim a spot and get to building!

This was my best run on Expert. I once made it through on my very last life when I decided not to skip anything. Another time, I still had 100 lives left after 10 courses, but I ended up dying at least 30 times on the last few.
>>
>>322121118

Can I do B3? I'll try and make it have a couple of vines or ways to access A3, but since I don't know how A3 will look, you might need to redesign it a little bit.

My idea is to make a reference to my Escape the Dungeon with your Dad level in it but who knows what I'll end up designing. I'll try and do it tonight or tomorrow.

I do have a couple questions though:

1, maybe you should write a name next to the FINISHED/CLAIMED circles to keep track of who's playing?

2, should we ban the use of doors? Or at least keep track of them? Because obviously only so many doors can be placed in a level, if everyone were to design a section with doors, it wouldn't add up, if ya get me, dog...

>>322121270

ARE YOU A WIZARD?
>>
>>322122031
B3 is all yours. I guess the name idea is a good idea (I don't know the names, or at least a nickname, of the first two anons,) but I don't think it's too detrimental right now. I suppose it would be a good idea to ban doors entirely, before I only said "don't go crazy with the doors", but I think if no one uses them, then they could be used as a few quick-access elevators to connect the layers more smoothly.

I get carried away sometimes. If a course takes less than a couple minutes, I might give it a few shots to see how quickly I can make it through. Basic Beach was reclaimed by the first person to clear it originally. He beat my time by 0.034 seconds.

Dr. Feelgood is much shorter and easier. There are two very different endings, depending on the path you take in the boss room. Have fun.

So, I'm not going to post all of my 40 levels, and since Nintendo put the new bookmark page up, it's a whole lot easier for people to navigate through that, so why don't you guys just have a look at my levels, some are better than others, sure, most of my levels are pretty traditional as you'd find them in a Mario game, and a few are pretty fucking challenging, pick your poison, /v/.

Yeah, Dr. Feelgood has a completely different feel, but it's still fantastic. Themed levels often forget to include meaningful obstacles, but that's not the case there.

Have you ever thought of making a game free of Mario Maker limitations? I'd buy it.

Your levels seem fun, bookmarked a couple and I'll tell you how it goes.

Fuck, you noticed I failed it both times you uploaded it?! I keep getting to the bit with the Clown Copter and rage quitting after I mess up. I'LL COMPLETE IT CHARLES, YOU HAVE MY WORD.

Oh and Compilationanon, can I do whatever I want in my section? I ended up kinda making a little city design but aint finished yet

I've certainly thought about it, but my OCD often works better with some limitations. Too much choice can paralyze me.

very fun, reminds me of the NSMB2 DLC. The P-Switch Door that allows you to skip the second half is an interesting design choice, but I'm not complaining since I got a WR out of it.
>Midnight Sky Magic
While it's a great level, I'm not sure about the inclusion of Lakitus. It's very easy to float above everything. Stupid things should have a "no cloud left behind" option.
