As long as it's entertaining to do, that's what some games like that are for.
But then again I can appreciate a game where it's to the point and more honed. Really, if the world is fun to be in I don't mind being there for a long while as long as it's not just one gimmick, i.e. party banter or aesthetics. It needs to be diverse, which is where I think a lot of the problems arise in open world RPGs.
I like focused games, so I choose arbitrary binary choice number 1.
