Is Monster Hunter as close to perfection as the action genre is gonna get?
What other action games (2D or 3D) have a similar feeling of testing your reaction times and quick decision-making skills without coming off as a MH rip-off?

Soulsfag here, monster Hunter is terrible.
>Is Monster Hunter as close to perfection as the action genre is gonna get?
No, go play a fighting game or an actual input heavy game like DMC3
They got close with 4U CB

Souls is a shit action game too

It's interesting you think that, but it's not really relevant to the thread.

You are all faggots.

I hope you read the OP and saw "action genre" there.
>an actual input heavy game like DMC3
Sweet, I'll give it a go. As a quick primer, how important is input timing in that game and how customisable is the moveset? that's what I'm most interested in.

Actually I should take it back a little, if you want a game about quick decision making then go with Godhand. The entire game is basically Crown control
If you do get DMC3 make sure to download the style-switcher mod

>Crown control
meant crowd control, shit

Monster Hunterfag here, Souls games are terrible. But still good in their own way to others.
But in terms of perfection, it's no where near that.
Just fun alone, and great with friends.

Ninja Gaiden is literally the pinnacle of testing reaction and quick-decision making skills. Also it is waaay harder than monster hunter will ever be.
>>322078103
i'll try to get into the series when they stop making it for a system with a 240p screen
I think that mon Hun is pretty much perfect for what it's trying to achieve. So are devil may cry 4, dark souls, ninja gaiden black and sengoku Basra 4. They're all very different games that succeed in very different ways. I'm sure someone will get mad and call this answer a cop out but it's what I truly believe.
On a side note, living in Japan right now and tossing up whether to get mon Hun x or just wait until the next English instalment. Can anyone tell me how much of it is rehashed?

Not to mention Monster Hunter doesn't really test reaction that much. It test how you react. But the game is relatively slow paced. So much so that you can literally run around monsters to avoid most of their attacks.
