Marty Stratton says they (id) still wants to release the modding tools. Pete Hines says SnapMap will be it for modding. Who knows how that'll end up, hopefully id comes out on top.

it's a bethesda product and they want the old community. They released the rage dev kit before. Nobody use it because it is 50gb not counting the game and no documents.

id Tech 6 which new Doom uses went back to the dynamic lighting system. They said they didn't want the prebaked style used in Rage, they felt the dynamic was necessary for Doom.

The "yellow filter" people refer to is just a result of the lighting in the level. Go back and watch parts of the foundry demo and look at some of the screenshots they've released, there are areas that don't have any yellow at all. They really need to show off more video of the singleplayer.

The Plasma Rifle section starting at 4:00 is more of a teal-gray. The Hologram/Tech Arm section right after uses cooler colors like blue. At 8:58 they show off a multiplayer map with strong, bright blues. During the SnapMap segment at 10:41 there's more cool grays and 10:47 there are dark blues.

The screenshots I referred to are these, which show one Hell level that hasn't been shown yet and one part of another level (possibly a section of the Foundry) that hasn't been shown yet.

It doesn't help that the only two levels they've shown in motion are a foundry filled with glowing molten metal and a Hell level with a bright yellow sky. There's clearly more colors in their palette than they've shown but they're really hurting themselves by not showing more video of those areas.

I feel utter crushing disappointment whenever I see more gameplay of it. Damn it, it was so simple not to fuck up but you did it anyway. I'd have preferred a Doom 3 2.0 instead of what's coming!

How so? What is it about Doom 3 that you prefer over what they've shown of Doom 4, or what is it of 4 that is so bad you'd take 3 again? I'm just curious how someone who says they love 1/2 could prefer almost anything of 3 over 4.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Doom 3 for what it was and I don't like many of the things they've shown of 4 but at the very least the gameplay of Doom 4 looks much closer to 1/2 than 3 ever was.
