which vidya genre will be the next one to die off?
probably arena shooters, once TF2 finally dies
rts doesn't count because it's already dead
mmos and rpgs will never die, they'll just keep being warped and perverted until they're unrecognizable to what they once were
>>322057606
does tf2 really count as an arena shooter?
>>322058285
yes it does

In order from most to least dead:
>arena fps (attempting to dig up a corpse)
>mmos (still breathing but on its last legs)
>rts (somewhat active, has dedicated players)
>rpgs (still active and healthy)
>>322058859
blizzard continuing to milk SC2 is not "somewhat active"

too bad most of TF2's playerbase treat it like a virtual chatroom/economy simulator.

Why are so many people posting frog-tits lately?
>>322059080
What genres have ever died out? Even roguelikes have been having a resurgence recently
>>322057406
So will someone come by 10 years later, take all the good bits from various games in the arena fps and/or RTS and rake in a ton of money whilst being regarded as original and genius?
>>322059354
More like why aren't more people posting frog-tits lately?
actual stealth games but those might already be dead depending on how you look at it
>>322059080
>>322059453
Point and click adventures. Dead =/= games never coming out.
>>322059354
I always post her given the opportunity.
Maybe others are just hyped for the anime I dunno.
>>322059726
they still exist, just look at the PS3/4 library
TF2 is not an arena shooter, arena games do not have classes
>>322059845
There's an anime coming? I had no idea, I just like the cute frog girl.

Asking the real fucking questions over here.
JRPGS and SRPGS are dying a slow painful death.
WoW is either going to go full on Lich or die very, very, very slowly with a whimper. MMOs are doomed.
RTS is dead, and Esports have more or less destroyed any chance of a resurrection.
>>322060679
No.
But she can regurgitate her entire stomach and secrete digestive enzymes from her skin.
There's always another MMO. The genre won't die off, we probably just won't see anything like what WoW was in it's prime ever again. It had something like 12 million subscribers at one point? Unless something comes out that really brings something new to the table, I doubt we'll ever see anything like it again.
Arena fps was driven out of town by "normal" fps games. Unfortunately the big titles in the Arena fps genre, DOOM, Quake, UT couldn't bring out a recent game that really smashed the box office. As a result, people turned to playing with there friends on other shooters like counter strike and Call of Duty.
RTS, now it appears that the RTS genre was also driven out of town, this time by MOBAS, but really RTS just sits in the corner, waiting, just waiting. Plenty of people would welcome a new big hitter, and grey goo could've been just what the genre needed, but it failed to impress with sales, and will be written off as another "tried but failed". Starcraft II LOV is all that really remains to make sure the walls don't collapse.
RPG's, as long as a man or woman can dream, the RPG genre will survive.
>>322061420
Kinky.
>>322061475
Is there really absolutely no way to save MMOs?
Is there just not big enough of an audience for the kind of games they used to make anymore?
>>322061624
I've never been interested in MMO's. They all seem boring to me.
>>322061624
Well by "save" what do you mean? Plenty of people still play MMO's, they're just more spread out because there are more of them nowadays. Even if /v/ tells you it's a shit game and "dead" there are still people playing it. It's ultimately up to you to judge whether it's a good game or not.
When WoW was released it became a phenomenon, it became "THE" MMO. You could ask around in any city or town and you could bet your ass when you asked a total stranger if they knew what an MMO was they would reply with the words "World of Warcraft".
I think a problem nowadays is that people tend to judge new MMO's by the standards set by WoW. I think nobody has really set out with an idea to try and improve what WoW did, or maybe they did and failed. With technological improvements comes innovation, and with the rise of VR (Oculis Rift etc) we may see yet another monster that could match what WoW was back in it's golden days.
