Because Valve saved PC gaming and the breach wasn't their fault. It wasn't even a big deal anyway.

in the last 5 years sony have leaked at least 13,000 credit card numbers up to 77 million passwords both of which which were being stored unencrypted. not only did the hack leak this data but it also resulted in PSN being down for 23 days.

in the last 5 years, valve had one data incident that impacted a drastically smaller number of people and only exposed email addresses and the last 4 digits of credit card numbers of random people to other random people. no credit cards numbers or passwords were leaked. the outage lasted 1 hour.

i'm not defending valve i just want to know about /v/'s fucking selective blindness because let me tell you /v/ has reacted much more strongly to this than it did to the PSN hack, and yet the minute you bring it up people get all defensive and start calling you a valvedrone like it's some kind of magic word that automatically wins any argument

Fanboys are born from people with weak identities and often few social connections. Desperate to fill the void somehow, they turn to the corporations whose products occupy their every waking moment, and revel in a circlejerk in order to feel better about their lives. An attack on the corporation is an attack on them, in their eyes, for their happiness is so tied to the corporation's success and prestige.

Pretty much this. Valve dropped the ball with this security glitch, but it was handled fairly expediently, and whilst private information did end up being leaked -which is never acceptable- the damage done was arguably negligible. Valve isn't exactly getting a free pass, but since the harm suffered has been relatively minor, on top of the fact their track record is otherwise pretty clean, most people aren't exactly flipping their shit over it either.

Because they are expecting to get free games from it, so its ok.
Its one of those things where elitists are loud, but everyone else doesn't care.
Like the "I don't want it localized if its getting censored" people.
Or the "I don't want them to make games at all if they are region locked" people.
Or any other group with a sweeping generalization.

Gamers are loyal to video games, not who makes them or releases them.

Because it wasn't a breach it was more of a mistake and their page cache was fucked up. Breach means that someone did this intentionally this was more of a fuck up. Also other than exposing e-mail and real names. no hard information was exposed as protocol. Since real names and email are public information.

it wasn't intentional, no, but someone at valve fucked up and caused it to happen. it wasn't a glitch, it was caused by an actual employee or group of employees.

Sony got shat on really hard when it happened.
It was well deserved too.

Its not much of a big deal anymore because it happened years ago.
But even then, up until the end of the last generation MS fanboys kept justifying their paid online while pointing at Sonys failure and other shit like that.

Sonys fuck up got a lot more exposure than this Valve thing which blew over rather quickly.

The more exposure comes from the high severity of password leakage, and as far as normie media goes it's easier to report on something about playstation compared to steam, which is relatively unknown to non gamers (compared to playstation or xbox which are household names because of strong marketing)

There was a caching error; and that enabled other people to see your email, some digits of your card, your friends, but nothing absolutely major

Needless to say, it needs an explanation, apology, and a repercussion

PSN and XBL gave out free shit, deeply aplogised, and thusly improved their services last year when memesquad 'attacked' them at Xmas and they were down for 1-2 days, they should not be allowed to brush this under the rug

There are tons of people who didnt even fucking know about it despite being online on that time. This shit went on for like 30 minutes and people act like everyone lost super sensitive shit, which wasnt the case at all. Its just people shitting on stuff just for the sake of it.

If you mean they couldn't release an apology because their system got taken down, you're just dumb. Valve has a bunch of social media channels they could have used to release statements, none of which published anything about this.

>If you mean they couldn't release an apology because their system got taken down, you're just dumb.
No, I'm saying they have different priorities
>fuck, some cache shit went down and we finally got it fixed, we should write an apology
>fuck we're getting DDOS'd we have to deal with this before we write that apology
>alright we dealt with everything now here's the apology
What is wrong with that situation besides you being a bitch about how they decided to not release an apology while they were busy trying to get their store to stop being under attack?

If they had time to talk to whichever site reported their statement, they had time to write a short sentence to release on Twitter to try and calm people down.

I agree that the problem are priorities, Valve just can't seem to get theirs right.

Themselves
http://store.steampowered.com/news/19852/

They released the news on their own site. But it's not like they could write this news on their site
>without all the correct information
>without some numbers and specifics to calm people down (i.e. only last digits of credit card, only last 4 digits of phone number, verified that no purchases could have been made)
>while their servers were taken down
>while they were being attacked

Makes no difference, Valve is liable to their mistakes.

I mean he's right.

Is this b8?

It doesn't matter what compensation you receive from a company which was storing user passwords and CCs in plaintext in their DB, anyone company who does this simply should not exist.

You cannot compensate users enough when you a security vulnerability allows unauthorized users to steal millions of user passwords and CCs, no amount of "free shit" will make up for the damage that causes.

Besides that whole swatting nonsense I can't see this having a particularly bad worst case scenario kind of thing, not like people were able to actually make a list of millions of people's addresses unless they were some really dedicated nuts that happened to notice during the hour when it was happening.

Because all youtube comments are are unmoderated circlejerks, spam, and ass chowder.

100% of the time most highly rated comments on large channels are botvoted spam.

Fuck wearing a hat, man.
At least for me, seeing a bald/balding for the first time with the hair exposed makes me sort of accept it without though, but if someone wears a hat and then remove it much later to reveal a bald/balding head, it makes a terrible impression.
>>
>>322077375
Just as shit, but at least the reddit comments can be moderated at all. You literally can't even vote down spam on youtube, and reporting it takes several weeks for it to be removed.
>>
>>322077739
>You literally can't even vote down spam on youtube
You can hide it, why would you need to "down vote" it?
>>
>>322059937
It wasn't even Valve themselves that caused this - it was their 'caching partner', so probably Akamai or Amazon.

TL;DR you're a fucking retard, go hang yourself.

Sony STILL gets shit for the PSN hack, and rightfully so.

Credit card numbers and passwords were never leaked in from the PSN hack. Not sure why people still think that. Also storing passwords encrypted is something you should never do.
