Logically there shouldn't be, as mobile gaming is inevitably going to destroy it sooner rather than later, but 3DS has sold enough that I doubt Nintendo will stop now.
I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo are trying to work out how to enter the smartphone hardware market without fucking it up.
I've never found a mobile game I've liked. Ever. Maybe because too many of them are freemium "play for 10 minutes unless you pay $5 for more hearts" or other bullshit. Pay2win has instantly turned me off the mobile market.
Are there even actual good games on mobile? I'm not against untranslated Japanese games.
Nin at least will keep going since that is their money maker right now but i doubt Sony will try again since they fucked up with the Vita in almost every way.

I let my 12 year old cousin play a 3ds with Pokemon Y and Yo-Kai Watch and shit (because download play is fucking region locked so no Mario Party or Mario Kart family fun) as well as my iPad that has lots of PC and console ports like Don't Starve, Sonic Racing Transformed, Terraria, Skylanders, Disney Infinity, etc. You know what he spent the most time playing?

Mobile money/time sinks like farmville are all the rage right now and that probably won't change any time soon.

Probably not, which is sad. Many of my favourite games ever were handheld games. The platforms allowed for games with smaller budgets, less advanced graphics and higher innovation, led to a lot of great titles that wouldn't exist elsewhere - Ghost Trick, the Castlevanias, enhanced remakes of older titles like FFIV Complete, P4G.
Just another reason I'm getting more jaded with the vidya industry.
