It was "confirmed" when half life 2: boreal tides popped up in the staff groups that are data minned every now and then.

It's going to be released alongside Steam's VR headset. The only reason that was delayed was because Half-Life 3 isn't ready for release yet.

DNF was poorly handled by every developer that touched it, each one promising this and that, hyping it themselves to unfathomable heights.
HL3 has had no promises. There is no "hype" to live up to, because no-one expects it to be the best game ever, and because Valve aren't claiming it to be the best game ever.
There is no hype, only hope that it will exist.

That's the only viable release window they have when it comes to HL3. They know they can't live uop to hype so they try to wrap it up as something innovative, like a VR tech demo. It's gonna be the Avatar 3D of video games and Valve knows this.

That's why people loved HL2. It set the standard for FPS at the time.
It's like the Avatar of vidya: Due to its success and reception all games started to adopt elements from HL2. That's why if somebody was to play it now for the first time they would be bored because everything that was innovative about it was put into every game.
Pretty happy, people would pretend to flip shit out of excitement and then simmer down and complain about it not coming out when they want it to. Look at Shenmue 3, that shit aint coming out for at least 2 years and people are mildly excited for that shit because they now know that it exists

If the game ever releases it's going to be a meme game with gordon voiced by some meme actor like chris pratt constantly spouting one liners. It will probably have regenerative health and be completely bereft of puzzles (press f to pay respect to eli vance).
Most of the gameplay will consist of travelling from cutscene to cutscene cutting through weak enemies like a scythe through chaff. It will have a pointless RPG system to upgrade your HEV suit.

Valve is waiting for better technology. Namely, the advent of quantum computing for the game's processing needs and the birth of a new plateau in virtual reality hardware. We just have to wait guys, it will definitely be worth the weight.

google search landed me there, as far as i could gather waking up to this ARG, Undertale is the 'latest' tier of the puzzle, but I don't have it so I googled "Undertale code" and it returned this result spotted by someone: https://imgur.com/TXzRbFq
cba to do a recap since it's on reddit and the valve ARG chat, but the system so far seems to be a specific game page, where you type in "SEARCH" into the search bar, it then asks you for a code, and that code might be related to the game('s page you're on) or it might be something from the Winter sale comic
