Why did 343 make the story so stupid and convoluted?
Bungie's Halo games had a simple premise, with some nice backstory if you wanted to explore it in the expanded fiction.
Halo 4 and 5 have terrible stories and expecting every player to read all the players to read the expanded fiction for it to make sense is dumb.

Shooting robots can be very satisfying if done properly. But the problem with 4 and 5 is that the robots there feel like generic bulletsponges with no personality to them.
Take Binary Domain for example. There the robots lost splinters of their bodies and armor with every bullet and you could shoot off their legs, arms and head for different effects.

With the story?
-The point of Cortana was that she was supposed to be the most "Human" character in the series despite being an AI. The literal heart of the series. Turning her into a space Hitler on a mission to subjugate the jewmans for there own good and exterminate those that don't obey is so out of left field it ruined the character forever.
-The notion that the military would have some lesser bitch Spartans hunt down Master Chief for going AWOL is fucking retarded. This isn't some rank and file grunt. This is the goddamn Master Chief. He's been humanities savior how many times now? I'd think if he needs to run off and complete his own mission, they'd at least offer a little clemency. If you can't trust the unexplained actions of the most selfless being since Jesus, who the fuck can you trust?
-They decided to fill the Cortana void with the last living members of Chief's original squad. This was a fucking awesome idea, and as a longtime fan of the series and the lore, it was great to actually see Linda, Kelly, and Fred. This was a huge selling point for a lot of fans.
Except for the fact that, you know, we barely see Blue Team throughout the entire game. Which brings me to the next problem.
-Spartan Locke is the single worst thing in this entire series. The fact that they keep trying to shove him down our throats is pathetic. It feels 343 is desperate to leave their own mark on Halo with their own franchise hero. But nobody gives a shit. At least when Bungie threw the Arbiter at us, it was a unique story perspective.
343 on the other hand, didn't give us a unique new perspective. They just traded in Chief with some dime store version of Chief that nobody asked for and nobody wanted. Master Chief was relegated to supporting cast in his own game. Spartan Locke is literally the Sasuke Uchiha of this fucking game. Chief only showed up long enough to remind us that he's not dead.
