Building my first PC, coming from Xbone

Should I buy an R9 Fury x

or

GTX 980 (not ti)

They're the same price in the UK

980

Fury and intel CPU.

Obviously R9

Intel+nvidia always

How's a 5820k

How long will that last me
>>
Is there a reason you need a top-tier card? You get better value from cheaper cards if you're on a single non-4k monitor
>>
>>321998542
Just go all out and buy a 980 ti

>>321999085
You need one if you want over 60 fps at 1440p

I've got of those meme gamer cases with the edgy design and it's noisy as fuck -- can any recommend a good case that has good airflow and doesn't look and sound like a plane engine that was designed by mountain dew?

The fury x is leagues faster than a 980.

GTX 980 ti is like 600 quid (1000 dollars) in the UK

R9 Fury x is more like 430 quid

FuryX. 980 is not as powerful as FuryX. Usually FuryX is priced near 980ti, which is usually better, I don't know WTF is wrong with UK.

Someone pls answer me

Will these specs support me for a few years, when the new GPU's come out?

5820k
X99-A
16gb Ripjaw
1000w psu

Are you sure it's not regular Fury?
>>
>>322000308
I have a plain old Corsair case that has a bunch of hole in the sides and top. Sounds more like your cooler is noisy than your case being problem.
>>
>>322001756
It should, 8 gigs of RAM has been the standard and 3.3 ghz on an i7 should be more than enough. If you are paranoid, try overclocking to 4.X ghz to keep up with games like GTA V which are fucking ridiculous.
>>
>>322002215
So when pascal, etc come out, this PC will be able to use it fine?
>>
>>322001756
1000W is kinda overkill but it never hurts to have extra.
>>
>>322002330
of course it will dude! You have over 3 ghz of CPU on 4 cores, your rig will be just fine. Most games today are like 90% GPU anyhow.
>>
>>322002479
I think people always kinda go overkill when it comes to PSUs, I have a r9 380 and a Corsair 500W PSU (bronze).
>>
>>322002573
Do you think If I buy an r9 390x, it will be compatible with the new GPU's?
>>
980

>>
>>322001054
That doesn't matter when game performance is intentionally hit in Nvidia's favor
>>
>>322002858
....what? Like will it crossfire or SLI or that bullshit? No, you have to have 2 of the same card.

Or if you're talking about performance, no matter what card you buy there will always a better one in the pipeline soon. The best thing to do is get a card that is good price/performance (unless you're a rich faggot)

>>322002934
Well in that case he really has zero things to worry about.
>>
>>322003027
Would you recommend the 390x?

It's nearly 100 pounds cheaper than the 980 here

1080p?

than yes 980 is way overkill
>>
>>322001841
>>322003023

What's the minimum wage there?
>>
>>322003398
I want to play on 1440p

I've never play games on PC before
>>
>>322003140
The 390x is stronger than the 290x, but only marginally. It is a bit weaker than the 980 and you can expect about a 10 frame difference playing brand-spanking new titles in 1080p.

>>322003398
980 will probably outlast the 390x by about a year tho.

>>322003510
I'm not one of those people, but 1440p is a meme. There's barely any reason to buy a 1440p monitor as they're expensive as fuck.
>>
>>322003510
well if you are going to spend alot on a 390x you may as well spend the extra 100
>>
>>322003582
>There's barely any reason to buy 1440p
Look at this poorfag jelly that I'm running 1440p/144hz, Gsync, IPS.
>>
>>321998542
I'd go with R9. But please, don't end up like those total mustard cunts. Just enjoy games and don't be a cunt to people who don't play on the same gaming toy.

I just don't think it's worth the money considering how cheap good low-response 1080p monitors have gotten.
>>
>>322003705
>>322003582
390x is 300 pounds

980 is 400
>>
>>322003906
spend the extra 100

future proof
>>
>>322003906
so 450 vs. 600 buckaroos. Personally I don't think 10 frames is worth $150, but that all comes down to how badly you want that framerate on MAX quality settings.

I'm a bit indifferent, but I really love solid 60 FPS on max settings.
>>
>>322003208
That site is shit.

$950 starting for an i5 is ludicrous.
>>
>>322004043
>>322004082
I'm planning to get a pascal when it comes out, so I thought 390x would be ok until then?
>>
>>322004118

Your opinions are shit.
>>
>>322004343
it's fine, but what's the point of dropping 300quid on a GPU you're going to sell for half the price next year?

Get pwnd.
>>
>>322004613
What would be a good one then

970?
>>
>>322004613
970 isn't a bad choice, despite the bad rep it has. But honestly waiting half-a-year on a budget card will probably serve you better. Check out logical increments for a mid-tier card.
>>
>>322004657
same shit. nVidia holds price better, but you're going to pawn it in one year. And 970 has bad rep.

See what games you're playing and buy a cheap GPU that can run them. R9 380 or something.
>>
>>322004616
>micro ATX
>mid-tower case
>no name PSU
it's like you want your rig to be completely non-upgradeable.
>>
>>322005027
That's just an example. The site is still awful.
>>
>>322005576
Your example was worse than the site, the fuck is wrong with you?

Logical Increments is just a guide, if you can find a better deal then use it.
>>
>>322005802
It getting touted like it has decent suggestions is the problem. An i5 with potentially at least 16GB of memory and a 970 is just fine.
>>
>>322005917
But it has a build that recommends just that. You can even shave off about $100 if you don't include an SSD or aftermarket cooler.
>>
>>322005917
16 gigs of ram isn't necessary. No game with reasonable requirements uses more than 8.
>>
>>322006176
>for $950
>minus $56 for the SSD
>minus $27 for the aftermarket cooler
>$865
>vs. $680
>>
>>322006902
680 not including the fact you have a no-name PSU that will probably die on you and a microATX board in a mid-tower case. That is a terrible setup with little room for upgrades.
>>
>>322006715
He criticized the mobo being non-upgradeable. The 2 slots can have at least 16GB, which is fine.
>>
I'd go with a 390 or even 970 and sell it when the new gen gpu's come out for one of those.
If you can't wait definitely a Fury, the 980 has good overclocking capability but we all know how fast nvidia gpus are obsolete.

The baseline HAF is more than enough airflow for your average anon, or anyone, really. Just be prepared to line all the fans and hard drives with electrical tape, because shit likes to rattle a lot with those cases
