Like what?

Devs mentioned that they tweaked procedural algorithms to not create fucked up worlds.

I guess they can't be 100% sure, and there will be 'look at this weird thing' threads after release.

A better question - how to 'fix' it? You can't re-gen already explored worlds, so you can have fixes only on new ones...

Is there gonna be a lot of dogfighting in this game? I'm cautiously excited about the possibilities of exploring and upgrading my starship for epic battles in space.

I really hope exploring part will be fun. Something in that appeals to me.

Devs don't seem to be particular dicks and SJW as well.

I feel suspicious about part where planet regenerates when you leave and someone else visits. So, essentially - unlimited minerals. No idea how economics will work.

So many questions.

>>
I'm looking foward to it, but i dont think it will be anywhere near as epic as they are trying to make out. Having to wait longer for PC release pisses me off though.
>>
Game's gonna be trash. It's a procedural space exploration game that's being designed to run on console hardware, so you're not even gonna get sick cutting edge PC graphics, proper VR support, or 400 dollar HOTAS setups to play with while you fly around doing absolutely nothing.
>>
>>322000387
Pretty much this, I'd rather lower my expectations in advance and be positively suprised than allow myself to be enticed by the hype and then get hit by overehelming disappointment. I hope that it's good, but it has all the typical signs of an over-ambitious game that just isn't interesting to play in practice.

There are probably going to be xenos of many different types and associates, and there may be some mixing. You're going to be visiting pre-proceduraly generated worlds that are going to vary based many different variables and configurations.

Procedural content like this is not something I wish to 'explore'. I saw reused but recolored assets in the bullshots already.

Its like a game based around 'exploration' of Starbound worlds or Borderlands guns, without any of the stuff behind it that makes it an actual game.

for those of you anxiously awaiting this game:

Hear me out about MC and mods. Reason why MC is ruined to me is: I like playing Vanilla but after some time I get bored of it because I can't do some things or I know there is mod X that allows me to do it. Most things I wan't in Vanilla MC? Ability to fly, extra bags for carrying stuff and reason to collect all that stuff in the first place.
Again, my opinion. Same as my excitement over NMS.

>>322004441

I do hope Sentinels are not The Grox...

>>
Problem that I see with NMS and procedural generated shit in general is that it gets super fucking boring. Once you see 3-4 planets you saw it all. You can recognize the patterns and guess how far they reach. It ends up being copy'paste adventure with "randomize a little" before every paste part.
>>
Just think though, if you do run into another player it will be memorable just for the sheer rarity of it. And then you kill them....hopefully. Have they said anything about PVP on the off chance you do find someone else?

>>
>>322007875
Can't they just, use algorithms and shit to twist the form of the assets for slight variations, and then make it so close variations are very distants from each other ? Like make two similar -looking planets far away enough from each other you likely won't run into both at a close enough interval?

Developer gives you a product. With some ideas of how and why this product came to be. Then you have mods - essentially stripping some parts away, bolting on some parts, etc.

In the end you have completely different product which does some completely different things. And while yes, some of those extra parts are very fun, they ruin the original product experience.

Best example for me - automatic mining, bigger / more bags / flying gear in MC mods. I can live without them, but fact that I know there are (and I have played a lot of them) mods that would solve this annoy me.

No idea if it makes sense to you, or I'll be called some form of autist, but this is how I feel about it.

From what I've been hearing its been a major issue trying to get this shit to actually run on PS4. I really hope it all falls into place because I love space games and I love exploring things. I also like shared universe things like Destiny but I hate running into other people, really breaks the immersion. The worst that could happen with No Man's Sky is seeing a species or planet with a retarded name.

Coordinates at least in-game-behind-the-scenes are used to generate planet + if uploaded to pokedex allow anyone to 'jump' to it.

I do hope there will be a way to choose what to upload.

This game could be the second coming of Christ, and it still would still fall short of everyone's expectations.

Not really. It just means there's a load of tedious bullshit spread out so far that encountering people will be annoying as fuck. Remember
>13 trillion planets!!!

>>322010392
If players could just jump anywhere they want it would make finding them easy as piss. I wouldn't be surprised if there's no ability for players to actually input coordinates without mods. And the only way to jump between systems is to jump to the ones that are within X light years.
>>
>>322010360
There are talks of some offline play. And by offline they mean - you don't upload anything to Galaxy DB.

>>322010720
Since everyone starts 'on different ends of Galaxy' and since your ability to jump is limited by your hyperdrive, I doubt you will be able to link up with someone across the galaxy with level 0 drive.

I just like the concept though. I think the idea of randomly coming across a player in a one in a trillion billion million chance. It could be even better if they took a note from Journey and made it so the players couldn't actually communicate with words or see names above peoples' heads. Just the idea of playing the game for 100s of hours and coming across your first other player on a random planet seems like it could be magical

“[Your friends] will be a long way away. People keep asking us about multiplayer and I think when people see this they are going to fully realize what it means to be that far away from somebody else who’s playing…

“People keep saying to us, ‘Yeah, but what if I knew where they were? Would I go there?’ And it’s like, yeah, but they are going to have to stay there for quite a while while you get over there. And then once you get over there you might land on the same planet and then you will say, ‘I’m on a planet the size of Earth and I am on a mountain. Where are you?'”

“Just to be really clear… it is not an MMO. All of those questions are leading toward that. There are loads of MMOs out there. People can play those. We want people to be able to get a sense of playing with other people and to see other people and feel like this is a real, live universe.

“If you want to play a first-person-shooter-sci-fi-run-around-on-a-planet game, play Destiny. It’s a really good game. Go play that. We’re not trying to do that.”

>>
>>322016085
Because that's how their procedural generator works.
But you can't actually change the planets.
>>
>>322016085

that's due to the procedural rules - basically the animal ceases to exist when you leave and then is recreated when you come back. It will just be recreated in a different place depending on where it should be according to the rules.

There's no way damage etc. will be stored because then data outside of the procedural rules will have to be stored and this will begin to use up huge amounts of storage.
