Planetside 2 has an extremely bad reputation because it was in free beta for a long time, and even after release it was still largely unfinished, unbalanced and unoptimized. It also had the reputation to be pay2win because it wasn't easy to gain experience points.
Things have changed, things have REALLY changed in the last year and a half and this fucking game DESERVES more players, and gamers DESERVE to experience the LARGEST MMOFPS in the world.

You're not burst-firing with NC weapons and blaming it on the game, then saying VS are easy mode... Most NC weapons have an increased headshot damage multiplier making them infinitely more deadly when you learn to use them.

I love the concept of this game, however I hate the fact that it's yet another one of those military shooters where every weapon is a near hitscan and the only difference is range and rate of fire.
If only the weapons were closer to TF2 or Tribes weapons.

I stopped playing at BR 90 around summer 2013, they really fucked up things by changing weapons and adding new ones all the sudden.
I played VR and i was a magrider gunner with a friend, we couldnt really compete against the TR zerg on our server, at one point all the striker lockons and subsequent 5 rockets from each mag was just too much.
All i play now is basically Hearthstone. :/

What's their ETA on Player created bases and assets after taking over territory to gain access to special resources much like EVE Online 0.0 space?

Grinding cash to buy weapons got boring and most battles ending up in one area that was at a stalemate.
If I wanted to play Planetside, I'd boot up Battlefield 4 instead.

It's such a drag and a chore ro unlock even basic shit, all I wanted was a badass revolver but even after 100 hours I didn't have a fraction of what an entry level pleb revolver made by dirt and duck tape cost.
Fuck planetside.
They could have made an actual PS1 sequel instead of PS2.
They could have made a new EverQuest instead of PS2.
They could have made a new StarWars Galaxies instead of PS2.
But they just made a Battlefield clone with an intrusive cash shop.
Planetside 2 is dead for many reasons and the only truly good aspect about it always was sound design - it's one of the best in the industry.
I played it from Beta through release and came back every now and then - all those years later the game is still in a bad state and SOE putting it on PS4 without fixing any issues probably cost them more money than they made.

So how exactly is it better? My experience of PS2 was largely >>321991068 and >>321991071. You say new player get free stuff, what do they get? 1 new gun that's no better than the starting one? Still no rockets on ships, rendering them practically useless since everyone else will just nuke you out of the sky? How has the game gotten around the pay2win problem? Has it gone away? If not then the game still suffers from the issues that caused me to stop playing in the first place.
I prefer battlefield 4 because PS2 IS JUST NOT SMOOTH

Nevermind, I just checked their roadmap, looks like it's coming in February, along with physical transports to create actual supply lines for the resources. That sounds great, and maybe I'll try the game again then.

Either way I had a lot of fun with Planetside 2 during its first two years, I had more than 400 hours on it, it was amazing when I first played it.
Game is boring as shit. You just spawn, move to a base that looks exactly the same as all the other bases and kill people until you cap it.

Actually I felt like the game got progessively worse with most of the patches since beta/launch. But by far the main thing for me was that I had a character on briggs and the population on there was always lower then other servers but 6 months or so after launch it started feeling pretty empty.
