He still acts all cool and collected when you play as other characters. He just goes back to good ol' insecure Phoenix when you play as him, which makes perfect sense.

I would have been fine with hobo phoenix if he kept his character transitioning into AA5
But the sudden leap back to retard phoenix is really off putting it makes hobo feel more out of place than it already is
