i don't take it personally, unlike the people here
what i do find interesting is that the games are rated a specific way in order to prepare the buyer for what is in store, whether it be drug or alcohol use, nudity, suggestive words/phrases/dialogue/violence/whatever else i didn't mention.
Then there come two counterarguments: the first is that the games are sold in the USofA (normally that's the idea, at least) and they have freedom of speech, etc etc amendments etc. The idea of removing something simply because it is unsavory to the family environment is backwards, especially if the game states (with rating) ahead of time that it contains these previously stated elements. 2. japan is not the USofA, nor Aus or EU, so they must take precautions before releasing the game to areas in which the leniency for nudity, 13-year-old (in this games case) revealed boobs etc compromise moral rights, and others are against the laws of said countries.
Regardless, the rating is there for a reason. Unless the character is underage, there should be no reason to censor anything other than the wardrobes of the underage characters.
For example, Lin should have censored clothing (perhaps) in the US releases, while Elma should retain her access to the more skimpy outfits.
For all i know, that's actually the way it works. I have Xenoblade i just don't actually know how and where it was censored.
But the first point is most important. Ratings exist for an obvious reason. After that, regional morals are taken account of. It seems, however, that it's just simpler and cheaper to censor everything than to nitpick and select a few things to be censored while leaving the rest the same.
That and American parents are idiots and would freak out on any game-seller-employee who sold them a game inappropriate for their children, despite their having warned them ahead of time what the game contains.

What bothers me is how the half of the non-voice acted NPCs around Mira speak like how the Treehouse women do during their E3 appearances. It's like the same person wrote all of the text for these characters in a single night. Elongated syllables, similar sense of humor, sort of reminds of my younger sister's Twitter account. A large amount of NPCs have the same personality and speech patterns despite having unique things to say. This shouldn't have been difficult to avoid.

I ended up buying this game anyway because I think it's doing stuff that's rarely done in JRPGs (true open world exploration, for instance), but censored content in games really annoys me.
I'm not american, but in my territory we get american versions of games and consoles, so having to deal with the ultra sensitivess towards sex in today's american culture is a pain in the ass. They don't care about gore, but get outraged at anything remotely sexual, even though sex is a natural thing.
Plus, I don't like the idea that a group of men and women are telling me what I should or shouldn't see, even for products that require you to be 18+, an adult.

I no longer care because this is the last gen I'm supporting Nintendo. The franchises I love from them are mostly all dead anyway so there's no reason to keep giving them money.
